I have an M305 with the Barrel overtightened. Under-tightened or under-indexed barrel's seem to be an easy fix however I have read that an over-tightened barrel is not as simple as just loosening it off.
Below is a quote from this article http://www.m14.ca/seminar/M14_Seminar_EBR.pdf
"The barrel may be incorrectly indexed to the receiver. If the front sight leans to the left, and the rear sight is adjusted to the right to compensate, then the barrel has been over-tightened. To correct this, the barrel must be removed, and the barrel shoulder must be rolled back to replace the metal distorted by this over-tightening. Since proper alignment, torque, and fit of the barrel shoulder to the receiver is critical to accuracy, is is not a trivial fix."
Does anyone have experience with over-indexed barrel's? Is there anyone in or around Calgary that has a barrel vice to do this kind of work?
I have already invested a lot of money into parts from M14.ca & all the accessories to upgrade it but I don't want to remove the flash hider etc. if it's going to cost me more than the rifle to re-index it.
Maybe I should just look for another M305 and use this one for spare parts. Not really sure what to do at this point, any thoughts or suggestions?
