Hi Guys,

I'm running into a minor issue with my M305 shorty, as the bolt hold open doesn't really do it's job. It barely catches on, and when the mag is removed the bolt slams shut. Tried with 2 different mags, both exhibit the problem.

I played around with it and realized the problem was tied to the mag or hold open device, as it doesn't get "pushed-up" fully in the "locked" position, hence not retaining the bolt properly. If manually raising it from side of receiver, it works fine and locks the bolt firmly.

With this is mind... how would you guys recommend approaching this? I was thinking either replacing with an extended one (assuming the factory one is faulty) or using JB weld to build up a few millimetres at the bottom of the part so that the mag follower pushes it further up...

Thoughts?

Thanks
Eric

My bad, double checked and only one of the mags only is causing the issue... The other one doesn't push the hold open as far up as it could go, but still enough to activate the hold open, must have tried same mag twice yesterday :onCrack:

As for grease, it's all cleaned, the mag in question just didn't push the "tab" high enough for it to properly grab the bolt... The hold open can and does work... issue is the tab on the mag follower isn't pushing on it far enough for it to be positioned in such a way as to grab the bolt.

On that note... it does seem to be mag related more than anything else :D

This is almost ALWAYS a mag issue when it pops up. Seems more common on Norinco mags, so with my Norc mags, I function test them first before adding them to my rig. If you get a good norc mag though, they work as well as GI.

I agree with Claven2
The odd chinese mag follower does not have enough material on the corner tab to fully engage the bolt stop. The only fix is to ditch the mag's follower for one that works.
DO NOT use jb weld inside the rifle as if it comes loose during cycling, you will end up with bigger problems.

Took mine to the range today, same problem! It will hold open if I pull the bolt back but niet when firing. Who has a supply of GI mags?

regards,
Henry;)

Speaking of mags which ones are the best?

IMHO the best ones are USGI made by Checkmate Industries, but good luck finding them in Canada ;)

Best for the money is without a doubt the Norinco mags. Just make sure you function test them to ensure you have one with a working follower.
