M305 bolt loose

Hey guys, just bought a used M305 in a Troy MCS stock, and when getting it, I pulled the charging handle to the rear to safety check it, and the bolt was stuck in the chamber. I sprayed the #### out of it with oil, and the bolt came loose. It's basically just floating in there, ie I pull the charging handle back, it doesn't pull to the rear, I tilt the rifle up and it falls back.

Any fix for this, or is the rifle FUBAR?

Is the roller on the bolt engage in the op rod?

we can see the roller is not in the op-rod's track, maybe you just reassembled the whole thing without putting the roller back in the track when you put it in the troy stock
just disassemble the thing and re-assemble making sure your roller is in the op-rod's track.


I suggest you watch this video to understand what I'm talking about. You're gonna have to remove the stock, opd rod spring guide and op-rod spring but don't need to strip any further down. In your case the video gets interesting at 1:40

Okay. Just need to dig up a Youtube video on how to completely disassemble it, haha. So it's not f***ed?
 
Bolt and op rod are not assembled correctly
2nd picture you can see the roller -- which should be in the op rod

you need to remove the recoil spring and assemble Bolt and op rod correctly

Remove the spring and spring guide, it will greatly help ;)

I didn't actually put it in the stock, got shipped to me in it. Probably just got bumped during shipping.
 
yes updated my post to add the video, but I don't know how to remove the m14 from a Troy stock

edit: actually from your picture, it's already disassembled, so if your op-rod isn't broken, it should be a 2minute fix
 
Well, I was going to take it to the range today, and I had a friend coming along so I was showing him ACTS/PROVE on the M305, and he pulled back the charging handle, and somehow the bolt came loose from it again. I assured him it was nothing he did, since it had happened before. I figured it was better for it to happen at home before I attempted firing it than for it to screw up with a round in the chamber.

After I fixed it the first time it seemed to be okay. I'm wondering if there is something that could be busted on it, or if I had put it together wrong when I "fixed" it the first time?

I'm thinking maybe I should just throw it in the trunk of my car and take it to a gunsmith, unless of course anyone knows what could be happening.
 
you have one of two things going on here ..... or most likely both.
an out of indexed barrel causing the oprod guide to create twist and deflection in the oprod as it travels back towards the take down notch.
second is a very undersize oprod tab.

my recommendation, though you probably don't want to hear it, is to have the rifle inspected and corrected by an experienced m14 smith.
p.m. me if you need more info.
in my opinion, in this condition, your rifle "might" be unsafe to shoot as if this happens during a firing cycle...... believe me..... been there done that and it was ugly.
