Except for the ejector spring/plunger and the firing pin, I have had success with using many of the Garand bolt innards inside the M14 bolt.
Of course the firing pin from the Garand is longer, and the ejector spring/plunger assembly is shorter due to the longer timing cycle of the Garand and it's .30-06 cartridge.
Recall that during the development of the early M14 hybrids/Garand mixture, the .308 cycle with its faster burning ball powder produced a very rapid timing cycle.
Many of you will notice on your op rods, go and examine your Norinco or Poly or Springfield or LRB or Smith or JRA; at the top of the op rod hump , where the bolt roller resides. It's kinda boxy and square shaped?
Notice that there is a very slight or insignificant bevel or 45 degree cut?
That's for bouncing and punching the extracted cartridge .308 of course, some of you might take a magnifying glass and notice brass dings on that beveled surface. That's your op rod at work punching the brass outta the way.
Anyways that was a short lesson from my NRA High. Power coach back in the day.
Cheers, Barney
