Hi Guys,

Title says it all... going nutz trying to remove that castle nut that hold the flash hider... (yes I did remove the set screw).

Any thoughts or hints?

Thanks
Eric

Almost all Norc flash hiders are spot welded in place, thus the nut resistance.

Well there you go, in the time it took me to write this reponse 5 others jumped in. What a great group we have going here!!!

Is the castle nut not turning or is it turning, coming up against the flash suppressor and then not moving the FS? If the former, try some good penetrating oil, perhaps some heat, and perhaps a pair of vice grips. If the latter, do a search here or Google on how to remove a welded on FS. I had to whack the hell out of mine to get the FS off but once off once, it is easy to remove and replace.
Best of luck.

Use heat but very sparingly. DO NOT heat the nut red hot. Just hot enough to sizzle when you spit on it and call it dirty

Thanks all for the input!

The user and his tool where at fault... was using a pair of C clamps that was doing nothing else but turning that castle nut smooth... Using a grinder I was able to machine small "teeth" into it that would grab the slots in the castle nut. Was still very tight and would not move, so a second pair of vice grips came in to grab the flash hider, a good twist and it started turning.

Once that part was done I banged away at the flash hider but it came off rather easy

"was using a pair of C clamps"??? "so a second pair of vice grips came in to grab the flash hider"???

We are gonna need a vid to figure this one out.

I was a little confused when I read that one too. I'm not sure what he was up to there but it didn't sound good.

Mine is as tight as a witch's t it! I will go by Reno or Cdn T to get a vice grip and modify same using the dremel. Still waiting for the Dlask ajustable gas setup. It is over a week. It is quicker to get stuff from the states!

regards,
Henry;)
