m305 compatibility

Usgi gas cylinder dont fit on m-305 tread, the usgi castle nut too iirc.

Every other parts are compatible,exept for the norc barrel with USGI gas cylinder/ castle nut.

The FS castle nut and gas cylinder lock have metric threads and are not interchangeable with the USGI counterparts. You can put a USGI FS on a Norinco barrel, providing you re-use the Norinco castle nut. You can also put a USGI gas cylinder on a Norc barrel using the Norc gas cylinder lock. If you replace the Norc barrel with a commercial or USGI barrel, you do the opposite, i.e. use the USGI castle nut and gas cylinder lock to put Norc FS and gascylinder on the barrel. You probably wouldn't do that and use all USGI barrel parts though :D There are other parts that are not interchangeable, such as the front sight lock screw and castle nut lock screw and the internal rear sight parts. The barrel threads are the same though.

Yup, and I'll let you guess where all the "off-shore" made parts on that "American" unit come from.

(Unless you are talking about a Fulton or LRB rifle, then it's virtually all USGI)

I am trying to build an m14 clone that is as accurate as possible.

The bottom line is that you don't see many m305's on the firing line at Camp Perry.

I'll stick with the american stuff.
 
You won't see any M305s on the firing line at Camp perry because they cannot be imported into the US. There have been fewer and fewer M-14s/M1As at Camp Perry over the years, because M-16/AR based rifles are outshooting them. An out of the box M1A won't necesssarily shoot any better than a M305, and by the time you have finished working it up into a competition grade rifle, you will have serious money tied up in it.

If you don't mind throwing away your money for a rifle that uses non-GI parts. You get way more bang for your buck building up a Norinco. I'll put my 305 up against any stock or 'loaded' Springfield and be happy to take his money with a cheaper rifle.;)

+1. I have 2 springfields and a handful or norincos...my best shooters by far are a couple of the norincos I've built up but exch still costing less than a springfield.

If it's important to you though, the finish on the springfields is nicer though...:)
