I tried to search for this topic but had no luck.

What do you advise re the best way to get the Norc flash surpressor off?

I have the castle nut pliers now..but that sucker isnt budging. (Just tried to do it so far by holding the stock and twisting the nut)

So this is my first problem. Im also trying to locate and buy a gas cylinder wrench which will no doubt make this easier.

Once this thing gets loose...what do you suggest re getting the spot welded flash surp off?

I dont have a barrel vice ;(

Thx in advance

Did you remove the flash hider set screw before trying to loosen the castle nut?
Once you remove that set screw, spin off your castle nut as far as you can and start whacking...your flash hider...
Repeat as required.

Ya I got the set screw out first.

Did you guys get someone to hold the rifle while you crank on the castle nut?
Doing it by myself hasnt worked so far

Thx for the offer Yomamma...not overly close but I may take you up on the offer if plan B doesnt work ;)

Stages

Best to get a friend to hold the gun.

Back nut out until it stops.

Take chisel/hardwood block and give the flash surpressor a substantial hit while supporting the barrel.

This should break the spot welds.
Turn nut further until it stops again.
Hit it (lighter)again until it stops.

The off nut until it stops.

Keep repeating until everything falls off.

Some may only need one hit and then everything else can be done by hand.

Take your time. Support your barrel. First hit should be a doozie.

A barrel vice won't help. Got a 4" vice? Use some 7 to 8 oz leather(or the like. The idea is something thick to protect the finish)to pad it and you're all set.
Excess spot weld needs to be ground or filed off. Gently.

Iremove set screw, back off castle nut 'till it stops @ flash supp.

Clamp into b&d workmake[or crappy tire 1 --it's wood so no damage will happen to receiver]
Take a large metal bar[aircraft bucking bar--l-shaped] or a solid long bar.
Whack @ bayonet mount[tape areas you are whacking.
When flash supp.moves, turn castle nut more until it reaches flash supp again.
REPEAT until flash supp.is off.
If you have trouble you could send it to me.

Some days the Chinese kid doing the welding had the spot welder set very high. I had one flash suppressor refuse to budge with all the tips suggested above. So we got out the drill, and promptly burnt or broke just about every bit. However, by removing enough of the welding to weaken the bond, the flash suppressor popped off.
