M305 for Hunting?

Yes, I used mine for deer this year successfully. I shot Federal Premium Vital shock 150 grain ballistic tip ammo fyi. Worked very well. I'm glad I had mine scoped as the shot was as light was fading. I'd suggest a good sling, and in particular, a tactical sling that has the gun out in front at the ready. That way weight is no issue and your hands are both free.
Guy I used to work with used his original M14 for all his hunting until the law changed. - dan

I've taken mine out hunting for both moose and deer. Didn't shoot anything with it yet. Only problem I see with this rifle is that it's heavy to carry through the bush, on stand it's great.
I like having the extra fast shots on hand just in case you get jumped by some grouse!

I hunt deer with my M1 garand. Does that count?
"...used these rifles for big game hunting..." It's just a semi-auto .308. Using 165 grain hunting bullets(the .308 loves 'em), either in a load you've worked up or in factory ammo you've tried as many brands as you can to find which ammo gives the best accuracy, you're all set for moose or deer.

The M14 is a heavy rifle to carry in the bush and it was nice to not have to sling it over my shoulder. You can get them from Wolverine Supplies.

This is exactly the one I am using. It has enough adjustability to work over heavy winter clothes. You just swing your forward arm outside the sling and lift the gun into position.

my tac sling has a quick release that allows it to operate in full range of motion. An essential item for hunting with these rifles and keeping the rifle in the ready position with little strain or effort. My camera is down or i'd post some pics. The only problem i see is the sling mounts on the m14. I have moved mine to the side of the stock with excellent results.
Thats nice. My first deer was taken with an Hk 91. I wish we still had our Hk 91s. My father had two of them but we sent them back to the US after they banned them. I wish we still had them cause they were really nice shooters.

I use an M-305 for hunting deer. Killed two so far with it. Use 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. It's just a .308 semi-auto with good aperture sights and superb reliability.
