M305 for moose???

An M305 is fine. However, there was some talk about it being set up for 7.62mm Nato, and commercial ammo is not supposed to be ideal for use in that firearm. Maybe one of the Norc experts can chime in. But power wise it is surely enough. Try to get decent ammo in 165 or 180gr.

Your M-305 is just fine for moose, mine was and i have steaks in the freezer to prove it.All you need is some quality 180gr 308cal ammo, the one thing i found was a little practice loading those 5rd mags in the rifle doesn't hurt.Hope you have a great hunt.

hold on now- the 180's are tough on the m14 et al- use 165s and a premium bullet - proper placement and old moosie won't know the difference

t-star is right!!! 15 friggen grains won't mean nothing to the moose, but it will mean alot to the health of your M14... Remember, there are 7000 grains in a pound... So 15 grains is negligible... IMHO...

Cheers
Jay

Do not shoot more than a 168gr bullet out of your M14S.
You will be battering your action with heavier bullets
Having said that for thin skinned game the M305 is fine
With a 168 (or less) bullet you are pushing your limits (in my opinion) on moose without using a premium bullet such as a nosler partition.

Lotsa good premiums out there - is there any reason you couldn't load barnes? A 165 barns x would do a number on a moose no sweat out to 250 yards i'd think.

I'd have no problems whatsoever taking a 308 out moose hunting, with 165/168 grain (premium) bullets. Partitions are a great old standby, and a lot of folks here think highly of Barnes bullets as well

All kidding aside, if you put it in the right place, keep your ranges sane, a 165gr from you305 will kill donkey just fine.

I'd think a 150 X would be fine.
