M305 fun..A friend just showed me this on the net...

wow a bunch of you are ####ing retards, take that stick out of your but

i enjoy bumpfiring my m14, so far i havnt shot myself in the face, i havent shot over mountains and no one has died.

How does bump firing work? I've watched several videos on it, but none have shown a 'how-to'.

Not that I'd be interested in blowing through ammo like that, but I gotta know how it works.

OMG we need more laws now! Save the children!!! Save the environment!!! The population are too stupid for their own good. We need to save you from yourself!!

Too bad you have so many morons there...bump firing sure isn't causing any problems out here so I guess it's an ontario thing.

Or maybe you happen to live in a province which is out to ban guns in the first place, and playing nice by not bump-firing was only going to buy you a few more minutes...

Wake up, your problems are not a result of bump firing. Your problems are a result of idiots. Anyone who is not an idiot is perfectly capable of bump firing a gun safely. If you can't...well, it's sure not my problem.

1. I'm not in Ontario

2. I agree that the "problems" are the result of idiots, unfortunately we don't seem to agree on the definition of idiotic behavior.

I suppose that could be because I have been a safety officer and a supervisor/manager and am familiar with concepts such as due diligence, and risk assessment?

I have also been a "Certified" Range Safety Officer by the AFSS (for more than 10 years) and my club.

Also I have a well developed sense of self preservation which results in an aversion to people acting in a manner which threatens my safety.

Oh, I just assumed, because that is so patently dumb...I didn't realize anyone from anywhere West of Ontario would contemplate anything that stupid.

It's terrific that you understand risk management, just too bad that you can't seem to grasp that some behaviour which looks risky to you can be done perfectly safely.

I don't mind the concept of bump firing and it is impressive to see someone do it right (controlled bump firing from the shoulder, fast and relatively on target).

The only part of it I dislike is that most people bump fire from the hip. Firing from the hip is a bad idea for any gun, but "spray and pray" from the hip is even worse.

Stormtroopers fire exclusively from the hip and look where that got them. Defeated by Ewoks. That's right, EWOKS!

Okay, everybody relax, push yourself away from the keyboard and take a deep breath. Exhale... and take another one.

Let's keep it civil and safe out there...

right thumb through trigger guard, hooked on belt loop
left hand around forearm
pull gun forward with left hand, trigger is pulled by thumb
recoil sends gun back
gun is still being pulled forward by left hand
trigger is pulled by thumb again
repeat

Ah, now I get it. It sorta looked like that in the videos, but I wasn't sure if I was seeing it right. I have no desire to do it, as I can't afford to blow ammo that way, but it sure looks like fun.

Uh, nice avatar, BTW...

misanthropist,

I have no doubts you can bumpfire in a safe and controlled manner. However, that deoesn't mean that most of the others who are going to try can. From the bumpfiring I've seen, I would hazard a guess that only a minority of those who play with bumpfiring could be considered 'safe' with other people around, given the lack of control they show.

Here's the pinch - how do we stop someone who can't/doesn't do it safely and properly from attempting it? Should we just wait until they screw up and cause damage from their uncontrolled fire?
