M305 gas system off?

Ok stupid question but is there any reason why I CAN NOT shoot my M305 with the gas valve off and manually cycle the action? I couldn't find anything in the user manual.

You can for sure. Turn valve off and shoot, then manually operate like a bolt action.

It should be able to work. What is happening when you turn off the gas valve and shoot?

tried it once, meh.
Big issue is that the semi in bolt action mode is not the same as working a bolt action rifle. You have no torqueing advantage of a manual twisting bolt, pulling the oprod straight back takes a bit of effort with a fired empty in the chamber. ymmv

I shoot with the gas off when going for tiny little groups, load development.

Yes, the rifle was designed to be shot with the gas off when launching rifle grenades from the M 79 grenade launcher bracket.

Not that I've ever done that....

Whenever I do the gas off shooting, I bring a 2 1/2 pound rubber mallet.
Works better than the stand up and use your heel to eject trick... Trust me

I usually only shoot mine with the gas off. Im weird that way. Even then that dang barrel gets too hot too quick

Saves you flinging the brass into the snow at the gun club... so we turn off the gas and easily recover the brass on the racking process.

Now for the uninitiated out there... turning off their gas system when they are not looking has been done before! I usually charge a 6 pack of beer for fixing these gas systems! yuk yuk yuk
