Hey guys,

I came across this web page http://mysticplayer.netfirms.com/articles/m305.htm.....

How common is it for an M305 to have a warped/uneven head space?

Also, Is shimming the gas system a good Idea when shooting Winchester .308 150g soft points?

Also on a side note, Is there anything you can do to the tip of a soft nose bullet to improve its accuracy? like a resin/plastic tip or cover?

Mysticplayer is on these forums.
"...warped/uneven head space..." Headspace is a rifle manufacturing tolerance. It's either ok or it isn't. It doesn't get warped or uneven.
"...tip of a soft nose bullet..." The point/tip has very little to do with accuracy. The base of the bullet is the important part. If your rifle doesn't shoot 150 SP's well it's because the rifle doesn't like the load.

By "warped, uneven", are you referring to the engagement of the locking lugs? Is one lug making contact while the other isn't?

Headpsace is that mystifying measurement that gets everyones head spinning.
These are battle rifles, designed with extra room in the chamber for reliability in adverse conditions.
You must properly guage , with a stripped bolt and headspace guages, to find what your rifles headspace is.
Too tight of headspace is bad, too much is bad, but lucky for us, the "safe" zone is fairly generous.

Also mysticplayer is a percision shooter. I don't think he even calls it shooting unless it's over 300 meter's. Also he is the easiest guy on the board to get a hold of for all your reloading needs. And as of late, we need to roll our own due to the lack of surplus in this country.
