So I have noticed the op rod guide is loose... Ive seen videos on knurling it, could I just tack weld it ? How has everyone else dealt with this ? It makes my spring guide rod almost useless having a wiggly op rod guide...

There are hand knurling tools available or if you have access to a lathe it's an easy fix. Otherwise take a center punch and make a whole bunch of dimples which will have a raised edge and help tighten things up.

tack weld on the barrel could peel off the chrome lining in the barrel, and other bad things could happen. bad ju-ju.

I did mine with a center punch but the wimpy hammer I had was not heavy enough to really punch it. I decided to just put some red loctite and it did the job.

Thanks for all the help guys ! Im really trying to embrace the platform and bring it up to par without putting a giant hole in my wallet.

Appearance wise I wish I got the short barrel though lol ! Hopefully the wood stock will make me fall in love with it.

Surprisingly im shooting 3 inch groups with Chinese ammo even with this loose part ! lol

Thanks ! Just drop loc-tite in there or what ?

Connsider using epoxy like JB Weld. The following is from Gus Fisher:

NOTE: After working on many thousands of original GI standard and NM M14’s as well as I don’t know how many semi auto commercial M14’s, I have come to the conclusion that EVERY ORG should be stippled and epoxied to the barrel AFTER you ensure the OR slides freely AND the ORG centers the OR on the Gas Piston. (That’s the rear of the Gas Piston and NOT the rear of the Gas Cylinder.) Yes, I have been doing this even on guns I have built or worked that were just copies of basic Infantry M14’s as I believe it is that important to functioning, reliabiliy and longevity!!

4 inch groups is typical of unmodified rack grade m14's and m305's

I wouldn't be welding on the barrel for any reason, the heat from the weld changes the structure and you can end up with a large stress riser and changed crystalline structure. Not desirable when you are running upwards of 60,000 PSI through the pipe.
Peening and 680 Loctite works quite well for retaining the guide, the worst part is if you ever want to take it off again... it really holds well.

agreed, especially considering the heat can and will cause issues with the barrel's chrome lining. silver solder maybe, welding, not so much.
peening/knurling and permanent Loctite/epoxy is the way to go.

I always cringe when people talk about welding on barrels....might be able to get away with a quick zap with the tig welder but I would use the centre punch/knurl method myself....and I weld for a living
