M305 loose rear sight

Screws are tight, clicks are good, but the rear sight still wiggles. What's the fix?

Did you completely disassemble it and get everything whistle-clean?

I hear you. My elevation is good but the windage sucks. No amount of fiddling with it will change the error.

disassembled it and got everything whistle-clean, added a touch of grease and their is a definite wiggle to the sight aperture.

should I peen it to remove the looseness? If so, which part should I peen,the base or the aperture?

I've done some peening with my USGI sights in the past. I've even glass'ed in the rear sight aperture with Devcon and lots of release agent.

If you are shooting in competition (you likely have upgraded to NM sights) then it's worth doing said mods. If you are hunting and it's your bear gitter/ truck gun, then save yourself the time and expense. Leave things alone.... hey, it's a bear gun!
