M305/M14 disassembly...it aint working...

K so as not to appear stupid I had a TRW m14 in c/a( many years back)...came apart like a dream but am I missing something here?? Unload the rifle,no mags in it,safety on,move the trigger guard up and away forward and the trigger assembly should lift out...Fast forward to today..

Picked up a m 305..NIB..and cannot get the trigger assembly out for love nor money.The stock is soaked in a light oil and I am wondering if from the oil soak the stock wood has swollen and is holding the assembly locked in tight? Actually the whole rifle appears to have oil on it and not cosmoline.

I wanted to take it apart and degrease it but at this point its a no go...even when working on the stock my hands are coated in oil and if I take and pressure the stock in any place...oil just soaks out.

Any thoughts??...cooking tips?? Recipes??? or should I just say screw it and fire up the chainsaw and carve all the wood away???:evil:

I had to put ratchet extention bar right through trigger guard and standing on the stock with both feet grab that bar and yank it as hard as I could to open trigger guard. Worked like a charm.
 
It was difficult for me the get the trigger housing out but once it came out, next few times were much easier. I had to rock it back and fort, and once I got some movement, I yanked it out. After the trigger assembly came out, the stock separated from the rest of the gun very easily. Was your stock covered in mold? Mine was very moldy but not too soaked in oil, it was moist, definitely, but not soaked, and yes, no cosmoline, just oil.
 
it's not the first one that i've had to "wiggle" out of the stock- those norcs can be pretty tight

yeah my gas cylinder plug would not come off! I had to use the provided key and a mallet, glad i did remove it, my piston was covered in oil
 
Mine was tight to. I thought what am i doing wrong.

Some are just tight i guess.
Glad my guns in a Custom USGI stock now tho :).
That Chinese Coating on the wood smells funny :confused: God knows what type of Toxic chemical they soak them stocks in.
 
It doesn't matter if the safety is on or off. Typically one would put the safety on as to not release the hammer(ie b/c you can't move the trigger guard down if the hammer isn't cocked)

Since the rifle is new, it is probably just a lot of cosmoline, gunk and wood swelling holding it stuck. As mentioned, you can stick a screw driver through the hole in the trigger guard and give it a good tug.
 
i got it apart...it took about 2 hours of coaxing but the damn thing finally let go.dropped the action out first then drove the trigger guard assembly out.then the receiver steel was the next to come out. 1 screw was easy but the other took 30 seconds with a torch to heat up and loosen all the oil on it.

so the next thing that is gonna happen is this...gonna take the stock and start washing it with a industrial cleaner..then i am gonna hit it with TSP...( Tri sodium phosphate) and keep going till all the oil is out of it.by the way all of this is bought at your local hard ware store..or Cambodia tire or even wally world...:pirate:

when i get done this stock has to be clean enuff to paint and I cant have any oil soak in it..just a word to the cautious..i smoke...yayaya...now hear this...wheni started this at 2 am this morning I had a smoke going...i grabbed the rifle and the oil coming out of it coated my fingers and hands..had a puff on a smoke and its now 12.15 approx and I can still taste this crappy oil.this #### will coat every taste bud in your body and feel or taste like ####...

Hey Grizz i spent 2 hours reading m14 forums and seen this morning that you and Erin took it together. Ya she probably could teach me a think or 2 about it. Its so much different then the C/A i had years back.

For one thing there is enuff oil on this rifle,to oil my truck and my 60 year old neighbour couger for the next 2 years...an thats not a good thing.:mad:

IF YOUR RIFLE CAME WITH A CLEANING /MAINTAINENCE KIT ( SHOULD BE LOCATED UNDER THE BUTT TRAP ) , REMOVE THE COMBINATION TOOL-ALLOW THE CLEANING ROD CONECTING STUB TO DROP DOWN -THEN TURN THE RIFLE ON HER BACK-PLACE THE STUB IN THE HOLE IN THE TRIGGER GUARD -THEN USING THE BODY OF THE COMBINATION TOOL AS A HANDLE -PULL UP AND WIGGLE THE TRIGGER GROUP. IT SHOULD COME OUT.

AS FOR THE OIL- LOTS OF OLD TEE SHIRTS / PAPER TOWELS / Q-TIPS AND PROBE AWAY !

As for the oil...screw that... its way to much work the way you stated...I sprayed it down with cleaner and watched the oil wash away,then let it dry and did it a second time then went for the TSP....Wash the stock in Tsp and the water turns a real cruudy brown. i have done 3 coats of Tsp in less then 3 hours and maybe 2 more coats and there is not a speck of oil left to be seen in this stock.

I was gonna paint it but it has such nice straight grain to it I think that I am just gonna sand off all the burrs with about 1000 grit then start to oil it.
 
i thought my rife was going to be hard to take apart but wasn't. the only problem i have is i took apart the trigger assembly and when i put it back together the safety doesn't work it doesn't move. it like it is hitting something but don't see what HELP HELP

is the rifle cocked?if not the safety will not move...
