I'm wondering if someone would be able to help me out.
I just got a boyds walnut stock for my m305 and I'm attempting to get my reciever into it. My main problem is that the trigger mech won't slide up all the way. I am able to tap it all the way up and it closes and opens fine by hand but then I have to tap it down again. I feel this is too tight if I have to tap it up and out every time but I cannot figure out where it's tight. And since I can close the latch and open it easy enough I don't feel like it's the reciever to stock fit. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

If you haven't formed the right side bearing surface of top of stock to match the M305 receiver (longer than GI or M1A) , your action is sitting slightly tipped to left and trigger is not sliding straight into it's keyway.

If it's not that, than I dunno

As 45ACP said the boyd stocks are not a drop in fit for te m305 action. You must sand the notch in the topside of the stock longer using a sanding block so that the action mates with the stock. Put the action in the stock and look at it from the back and you see what I mean.

Agree with last two posts. I bought one too and had to do quite a bit of sanding and fitting to get it just right. They are not drop in's. Also, if you bought the wood hand guard as well, it to needs some tweaking. Don't force that piece. It will break.

Ok I'll look. I bought the stock used and it had been bedded to another m305 so I can't be to far off. would pictures help?

If it's been bedded that would explain your problem right there I think. How hard is the trigger assembly to latch? Is it a light smack or full judo chop?

Okies.
Take action from stock and set it upside down on bench/table
Take trigger group and have a good look at both sides. One side has a key edge running top to bottom.
Look for burrs on this detail.
Now, the receiver should be easy to look into with a flash light and find the corresponding keyway that the trigger slides into.
The key and keyway can be damaged/burred quite easily with being forced into place... When another issue, debris or poor stock fit is the cause.

Examine those locations and let us know what you find.
The trigger group could also be binding between the stock liner sides, but check the key/keyway first.

Well if those check out then the stock is causing a problem somehow.
You may have to carefully dremel out the bedding surfaces and re bed her after assuring fitment.

I was able to get the trigger group to go up all the way and come out easy now but It is too loose now. I'm going ro have to rebed the action.

if the stock was previously bedded to someone else's rifle , I'm thinkin that is where the problem is.
I'd be routering out all the bedding areas , prepping and rebedding the action and trigger to "your" rifle
with the trigger group binding on install and removal, and the presence of hammer follow, I'm gonna make a wild guess that the stock is not allowing the rifle and trigger group to come together in the correct geometry. only way to correct that is to rebed the action correctly.

once correctly rebedded, the presence of hammer follow would beg a closer look at the trigger group.

so, I'm gonna stick with that ^^^

Put some black shoe polish on the receiver and tap it in place. Remove it and work out the wood where the polish transferred until it fits.

Ok thanks a lot. Anyone you could recommend to bed it for me or would a any gunsmith be able to do this?

the shoe polish trick probably won't help ya here.
I think the best reference for someone to do it themselves is the Kunhaussen shop manual from brownells, very clearly details what the inlet should look like with pics and measurements. Makes it pretty easy to measure if an area of the stock is grossly out of spec.
as for who can bed it for you....... the only shop us m14 "gurus" seem to know about and be able to recommend is Tactical Ordnance , a sponsor here. Since I retired from all things related to the m14 (business/smithing ) I have been referring dozens of guys there and been thanked just as many times by guys happy with the outcome.

otherwise, have a gander at the m14 bedding video series that Tony Ben has compiled, with the info and techniques used by some of the top "real" m14 gurus in the USA.
