I am planning on having Jeff at VGS cut my barrell on my Norc and I got to thinking.(Bad Idea I know). Instead of threading the muzzle and adding a muzzle brake which bring the length up again over the 18.5 length by an inch or so why not have him drill(machine) small ports right into the top of the last 1/2' or so of the barrell? Would it work the same as a brake or not? I am interested in a brake over a flash suppressor as I plan on using this for tac rifle.

Any input welcome good idea or FUBAR what do you think:confused:

thanks

There are rifles set up like this. Essentially the brake is machined into the barrel, rather than being added on. The Magnaport system used EDM to cut the ports. The AR-180B's is machined into the barrel. There could be a catch or two. The rifling will be messed up by the drilling, and the brake area will have to be drilled/reamed out. (Magnaport's EDM avoided this step, because EDM does not throw up burrs.) The 305 bore is chromed, and this will not facilitate the reaming.

Thanks I knew about magnaport but could not remember the name. The point about reaming the barrel and the chrome lining is something I did not think of. I had thought about it needing an expansion chamber or something but forgot about the chrome.

Any input appreciated.
