What muzzle brakes will fit on a m305 shorty? I know the thread is different than usgi,
will a dominion arms socom 18 break fit or is it different? Another question where can i find a gaslock with dovetail for front sight?
The DA Socom 18 flashider wont fit your rifle. Only the thread for the castle nut and gas locking ring is different on the USGI barrels . A good brake that will fit the three lugs on your barrel is a Springfield Armory one .
Brownells sells them

The muzzle brake issue comes up frequently. One solution is to use a muzzle break designed for the M1A's castle nut system (e.g. SEI Good Iron Navy brake, USGI, etc.). The other choice is to have the barrel cut and threaded to 5/8-24 which is the most common pitch for 308 breaks. Then you can use almost anything made for the AR 10 platform.
In terms of a dovetailed gas lock front site, one is available from Dlask Arms (link below). ArmTac sometimes has SEI versions (they may be able to order one in).

When a 22 inch version is cut down to 18.5 the thread pitch used is 1/2 x 28 as the barrel has a thinner profile at that spot .
A pic of mine after the barrel was cut and threaded for a brake that I got from Blackrose Tactical .
And a pic my Socom 18 with the flashider/barrel shroud (its not a muzzle brake).
I ran into this problem a couple years ago. Had a Norinco shortie that I had removed the flash hider on ( Mine was spot welded). I found a company in Canada that actually makes muzzle brakes with the proper thread. Can't remember exactly, but I think they were called " Black Rose Tactical". Not even sure if they are still in business, as I only dealt with them the one time.
Here is a Blackrose Tactical brake on my Socom 18. I bought it used on the EE and it didn't come with the locknut. It came threaded for M15x.75. I had to push the thread on the muzzle back a little bit to get it to lock up at the right position without the nut. I made a new nut afterward but I prefer it like this so I left it. They don't offer this style anymore but they do have a couple others that are threaded M15x.75 but unless you chop and thread the barrel the keyways will show.
