m305 or not?

i say pick one up soon as rumour has it the price will be going up 150-200$ in the future

And I expect the price of nice early ones (09 and earlier) will soar accordingly.
Wont be long before there a nice bog standard 09 on the EE for 700 bucks LOL.
But yull have to be quick cos Hightrail seems to be buying em all right now LOL.
Really.......somebody should tell his wife LOL

so i realy want a m14 clone m305 with my budget, but in looking into them ive come across so many bad stories and problems that they have and that the bolts wear out and what not after a couple hundred rounds and its left me wondering should if its just internet drama and i should get one anyway and enjoy it and just replace something if i need to.

Go for it. I own three:

1) 2007 vintage with over 1,000 rounds through it, match grade operating rod spring installed, recoil buffer installed, and gas tube shimmed. No issues at all. Worst problem I ever had was a "sprung" extractor which is not uncommon to the M14/Garand family.
2) 2009 vintage with Scope rail and Scope installed, match grade operating rod spring installed, recoil buffer installed, and gas tube shimmed with over 500 rounds through it with no issues.
3) 2011 vintage shorty with synthetic stock. - It got the Hungry treatment from it's original owner and is superb.

Most of the horror stories you hear about soft bolts come out of the US where they can't have Norincos and haven't seen any new ones in more than a decade. The Norincos seem to get better with every batch.

this is something i'm currently wrestling with ! I'd like to buy a shorty but i'm just abit worried it'll be a lemon .... however, i don't mind the tinkering ! or else i could put a match barrel on my garand for the same price

are there any M14 clinics that happen in northern ontario ? that would make the choice abit easier

We are having a Hungry 2 day M-14 Clinic on a 600 yard range here in Petawawa again this Oct 19 - 20  .
Just bought another one yesterday !!!
Back up to owning 3 again and I feel better now....lol

thanks ... i'm out in the elliot lake to blind river area

sounds like getting one of them will lead to a house full in no time ..haha

well, i was gonna allow myself one last indulgence this year ( either an sks,svt or the m305 ) so theres my dilemma

There is some merit to the Norinco 2009 production as generally being very good for receiver strength and headspacing, even if some other tweeks are required: try to find one on the Equipment Exchange here.

I've had both Norc and Polytech made M-14 clones since the 1990s. I love them and have never had any issues. As Canadian licensed firearms owners, we are in a unique position to purchase these hard to get non-restricted gems and at incredibly great prices.

Mine is a shorty from 2012 and I have had 1000 - 1500 round fired without any issue. Love my M305 never go shooting without her. I also agree, they are great to tinker with. I say buy one, but yes have a look at it first.

Tough choice man, all sooooooo much fun. Honestly though, I like my SVT40 the most

It really comes down to how much you believe the internet drama people. Name one lawsuit, or consumer protection group that has singled in on the m305 rifle and you will see that these wouldn't be sold if they were unsafe.

Sure some folks will paint a mystical aura around how they know something unsafe about them, but they're blowing defects out of proportion and labeling them safety issues. These people kind of hump the line between hearing themselves talk and attacking a product so they can talk about how much cooler their guns are. It's trolling, without the finesse needed to troll properly, while getting trolled by the people who play long enough just to keep them talking.

I'm probably the dumbest person on this forum, and I have owned an m305 for 6 years, but I wouldn't recommend one to someone on a budget because the ammo is expensive. The SKS and surplus ammo is just as fun and way cheaper, durable as well.

its just cruel !!!

i knew i'd have to get an svt and the m305, eventually ... theres just something about those that i can't pass up

frig it

hope she doesn't find out or my name is mud

all that nagging ....is it worth it ?

mabbe haveta hit the G-spot ..... Twice !!

i'll do it ... think i'll start with the shorty

and thats why i over compensate with guns ...... dammit, its a vicious cycle !!!

well, guess i'm good with that

already lookin at new stocks ...

I got a 2011 shorty and only shot about 20 rounds so far. Could not hit anything. I see it as pointless when I can only shoot up to 100 yards at my range, .223 and 7.62x39 is just so much cheaper for that range. Its a heavy beast but it definitely looks pretty cool, even better once I figure out how to attach a pistol grip.

Barrel is obviously over indexed and front sight is canted to left. Rear sight is pretty loose too. Safety is a pain to engage but easy to disengage. The trigger is actually pretty damn good though.

Had some issues with barnaul ammo, sometimes there is dent in primer and doesnt go off, but will on the 2nd try. No prob using rem .308

No clue about head space. Hoping to attend an m14 clinic in Jan.
