I am just in the process of swapping out the plastic stock that came with the Norinco with a Boyds walnut. I personally like the look of the wood. What have guys done to refinish the upper handguard? Do you just scuff it up and paint? What have others done?

Also, I want to get a decent leather sling for it, can anyone recommend where I might be able to get one?

I would like to try and make the rifle look as close as I can to the original M14. What else might I look at doing?

Thanks for any advice.

For the ultimate M1917 slings have a look at the Les Tam and/or Turner Saddlery
Both of them have internet presence! They will be your last M1917 slings you will ever buy. I like the Turner Saddlery sling made of Biothane instead of leather because I don't have to worry about inclement weather situations.

Find what works for you and your budget! Welcome to the addiction! :D

Cheers,
Barney

Perfect. Those slings look awesome and I might just grab one up. Any advice on painting the upper hanguard? What sort of paint works best? Should it be painted and if so, what is the official colour?
