Hi all,

I'm running NM sights on my M305 and when sighted in for 100 yds my rear sight indicates two lines right.

My front sight is centered (from what I can tell).

Is there some way to now zero (center) the rear sight indication without disturbing the actual sight alignment?

Thanks,

M

No, you will have to slightly adjust the front sight. Its easy just use an allan wrench and loosen it slightly and it will slide to either side. Move the rear sight back to center and adjust to the right and tighten up and shoot again until you are in the bull. Once you have it set you can stake or mark it where it sits on the flash suppressor and you are good to go.

Poo, but I kind of thought as much. The guts of that sight eludes me.

Can I at least zero the elevation mark now? If so, how?

that can be done. You have to loosen the screw on the left side while holding the elevation drum still in a wrench (be sure to pad the drum with a strap of leather so that it doesn't damage the finish).
Once the screw is loosened, you should be able to turn the elevation drum freely without moving the aperture. Set the elevation drum to the desired elevation and retighten the screw (don't forget to hold the drum still with the wrench, using leather to protect the finish)

To zero left right:

Use a dab of white out or a pencil to make a reference mark on the front sight so you can see how much you have moved it. I buy white out at the Dollar Store and use it to make tempaoary reference marks on things. It comes with a finger nail or some brake cleaner.

Zero the rear sight.

Move front sight about 3 mm left and tighten.

Fire 3 shots.

Adjust front sight again, if required. Move it the opposite way you want the group to move.

.008" left or right with the front sight will equate to 1" at 100y with a 22" barrelled rifle.

Most of the Chinese rifles I see, the rear sight hash marks are not in the centre of the rear sight pocket..... so that could be part of the issue you are seeing. Also if the barrel isn't quite perfectly TDC the front sight will be slightly L or R for mechanical zero, but that isn't a sure indication either.

Here's a link to help with the process.

Bingo! The hash marks on my rifle are offset by almost the exact amount I have to crank the sight over. Guess I'll have to live with it or move the front sight.

Thanks,

The idea of the rear sight zero mark is so you can make field adjustments at longer range for wind compensation. When you are finished you will want to set the rifle back to zero. Easier to do if the rifle has been zereod with the sight on the center mark.
