m305 relliability in adverse condition (mud/sand/dirt)

These "ultimate SHTF" tests seem like the equivalent of testing how well your emergency food storage is sealed by submerging it in raw sewage. If something is important enough that your life could depend on it, keep it out of the #### as if your life depended on it.

The last place zombie looters are going to look for your food and ammo is a pond of raw sewage

No one ever said guerrilla warfare isn't ugly.....

Ever read the ingredients of Mountain House freeze dried food? Pretty much eating raw sewage !

Wow, finally some realism about reliability in the great ak/ar15/m14 debate. Hopefully some nooby will find this thread and actually learn something instead of all the derp ak47 more reliable than ar15 blah blah blah crap out there. As stated above, you fill the action full of mud, it ain't going to fire, no matter what gun it is.

Gobc makes the most important point in this thread.

These tests are ultimately useless given this factor.

Yes but most always think the action type is so great because it's nice and open and you can clean it out AK or t97 you don't need to because the cap wouldn't get in

yet incredible that the AR functioned way better with mud and sand in these tests than the M1A. it's almost as if it's a better design..

It probably is. It's quite obvious that the open bolt design lets more crud into the action. But on a practical level, and as posted earlier, the M1 garand made it through several wars and the M14 is just an upgrade to that rifle. I don't read too much into these tests. Pick your gun ak, AR10/15, M14, fal..., all will do providing you take care of them.

Yes, if you stress test them all, one will have to come out on top, but that doesn't mean the others are junk. Buy your gun, learn to use it, have fun. Hopefully the apocalypse won't come.

How much time do some of you guys spend imagining yourself grabbing your Norinco, a flat of Alphagetti and the the pretty girl two doors down and making a run for the hills? Reminds me of that kid in a Christmas Story and his Red Rider BB gun.

My wife and the woman directly across form from me are the lookers on my street... But the wife and I have talked about selling the house and running for the hills.

I would not take Alphagetti that stuff makes my wife puke...

RED DAWN man...... its gonna happen !!

Of course it might be DHS invasion but thats for another movie..

I ran for the hills 5 years ago LOL ....... zombies haven't showed up here yet
I try not to let my rifles get in the mud..... that's what my quad and jeep are for.
and in a real fire fight I'm thinking regardless of weapon, the soldier who gets the amount of mud into their rifle as shown in these stupid mall ninja/mirror commando/range queen inspired video tests , and doesn't immediately dump and clear , are the dead ones.

If I was in that same mud hole as Ian was, and my rifle got covered in mud, I'd give it a real good swish through the water to clear it. Common sense, I think...?

When I did my SQ we were in trenches and I knew already I had to take extra precaution with the C7 because all I had around me was sand. What shocked me was how easy sand would stick on your firearm when there is humidity in the air. It find it's way in your mag well and then you need both your hands the remove the magazine. I would be curious how it would have been with a FAL, or M14 or even my dirty SKS, but I'll never know.

The hills I refer to do not have internet connections. More and more I do understand leaving Metrocity and moving to the sticks.

The longer I own M14's the more I wish I didn't. Spent a crap load on em. Just over it.

Did you ask your wife if the lady across the street can come along when you go running? Nothing like making a cool fantasy that much more cooler!

where I am, heat is by wood and winters hit -35 for a short period, we have basic telephone but no cable tv or internet. Satellite tv and internet only here, which these days, can almost go to any part of the globe

Maybe I should recant what I said in this post..

The M14 really did suck in this test. Sure, we can say any action full of mud would shut down any rifle, but the blowing sand test really did make the M14 look bad. Not impressed. Again, the more I own em the more I wish I'd spent it on something else.

Bet it gets quiet at night. See any Bigfoot tracks?
