M305 scope mounting hole

Hey there, I just got a sadlak mount for my m305 and the bolt supplied seems to be to big for the hole in the receiver and it will not thread in. Do I have to retap the hole to accept a larger bolt or is something not right here? Is this common or do I have a failed quality control rifle?

What rifle do you own? Brand?

Unlikely you can re-tap the hole, the receiver is very had steel on an M14. Worst case, bring it to a gunsmith and have the bolt fitted to the hole or a new bolt machined that will fit OK.

You could also contact sadlak - it is possible you have a bolt that is out of spec, though it's more likely the receiver is off, so check that first.
 
Did you buy it from a dealer or was it a private sale? The bolt should fit unless someone mixed up a bolt from a different mount and sent that to you instead. There are mounts that untiliz a block that replaces the stripper clip block... that bolt is larger and longer. If someone had one of the mounts that uses this 2nd mounting point, at first glance, the bolts look identical.
 
He means the side bolt for the receiver.

Some commercial receivers have too small a hole as a worn reamer it tap was used. Like the Smith Ent and BMT mounts, Sadlak's mounts are made to fit military M14 rifles and are pretty consistently made. They are milspec.

Its more likely a commercial receiver is a little off than the sadlak product.
 
For a really great M305 optic mounting option try the CASM RD from M14.ca. I wait a couple months for delivery due to high demand but wow it's a solid mount. It goes where the rear sight is and then you can mount a reflex optic or short scope.
