If this is going on a Norc, I found that at least one of mine has a receiver whose left side (where the scope mount sits) is not quite parallel with the bore of the rifle. It offset the scope enough with an ARMS 18 that I was about a foot left at 50 yards. Some internet digging showed that I was not alone on this. CASM mount solved the problem.

If you're using a cheek riser to use your scope on your M1A, how do you find it affects transitioning to your irons?

I have a removable cheek riser for this because I didn't want to drill the USGI stock.

The sadlak fits only on milspec receiver. Not sure about other norc but mine appears to be because it is parallel to the bore. You can get an inspection kit for $5 to see the dimension of your receiver and Sadlak can custom fit the mount to your receiver.

The CASM is simplier to install and more rugged I find. You can still use the front iron because there is a hole in the mount but I prefer the M1A rear sight with the elevation knob.

A '14 in a BF is more of a DMR than a CQB..... IMHO....

Depends how it shoots and what you plan to do with it, if the rifle can't do better than 3-4 moa with the ammo you typically feed it then higher magnification probably isn't really needed and keeping it a little lighter might be nice if you hunt with it. If it shoots well and mostly goes to the range then 4-14 might be nice.
I have a 4-20x50 on my Blackfeather 18.5 inch but it has a Kreiger barrel so I have high expectations for it in the accuracy department.

I adjusted the CASM a little tighter and it's better now. Guess it will do for now

ARMS 18 mount and ARMS 22 with throw rings , Bushnell 10x . Its a really good setup . I had to trim a couple coils off of the bolt springs and remove the C clip for the mounting bolt on the inside of the ARMS 18 though .

I have a similar setup to Chalkriver, ARMS 18 and ARMS 22 rings albeit with a Leupy Mk IV instead of the Bushnell. It's a great setup. You can take the optic off in seconds and shoot irons and the rings return to zero well.

I would say, go for another read of the instructions for mounting the casm gen 2 mount. I have 2 in norincos and both are solide. I would not dare to think repeatable in the sence that it could be unmounted/mounted and remain zeroed, but thats of little concern.

As a fair warning wen mounting it. Wen you tighten down the first side ear screw on the right, as required, be very careful. I always lift the front of the mount before I begin torquing the screw, as wen you toque it it will turn back to the down/normal position. If this is not done one can temporarily bend the rail (the middle will sag). Wen loosening the rail would then return to normal. It happened to me but even so it did not affect accuracy or cause a wondering of the poi.

Also all the screws shoul be loctite and properly torqued. With this there should be no movement anywhere. I have thousands of round true this mount without issues.

Lastly if weight is of no concern m14. ca also hase a casm in steel that should allow no flex what so ever. But I don't believe it's needed.

I say 4-14. Unless you are a gym beast of a men , I don't see one moving around to much with a norc BF. Especially concidering that most 1-8 scope will be more heavy then a 4-(12)14. It is more a dmr type rifle not a cqb. I had a 1-4 on mine for a short period of time and it now wears a good a burris e1 3-9×40 with a prs and weighing around 11.3 lbs. That would be 12 lbs with a 1-8.
