I am looking for a decent scope to install on the scout mount. Am seriously considering a Vortex Crossfire EER scope (thanks Satain). Only concern is that is has a 20" eye relief. This puts the scope way forward and I wonder if it will look odd. The barrel has not been shortened although I considered doing that as well.

Has anyone installed a scope that far forward? Pictures and or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have on my 858. Not many options other thana posp mount or a scout scope.

I think it works very well.

I am using a Simmons 4x Prohunter scope.

Again not on a M14 so may be irrelevent.

±12'' is the best eye relief for the m14
burris and leupold are the only medium eye relief scopes I have found (leupold is around 10'' and burris says 8.2-14'') but 20'' is way too much

Thanks for the answers. Just for reference, a 20" eye relief puts the scope closer to the foreend grip of Chopper 1's rifles. I currently have an NCstar pistol scope with 11" ER installed. I will be shooting the rifle this weekend to see how it works and if it survives the recoil.

I have the UTG rail and use the LaRue extended SPR-E mount & it works just great.
A guy on the EE named blaxsun sells this 1 that I use;

I have utg too with the nc star LER 3-9 illuminated on mine. 400 rnds though and not a problem. Fast on target and reaches out 200 yards no problem. I used leopold low rings and the bell is 1/8" off the rail do my cheekweld is good on the stock. Ill post a pic tomorrow for you.

Thanks. I noticed they look cantilevered, to allow you to use regular scopes? I didn't want to go that route as I prefer to use stripper clips to load on the range.

Ya I use it backward's and the best thing is that if I want to use iron's or stripper clips I just remove the scope mount and when I am ready I just put it back and it shoots back to the same spot. I will post pic tomorrow after I come back from the range to show you what I mean.

Thanks Satain. That looks like a good cantilevered mount. I take it it is stable and doesn't need to be anchored into the strip clip guide.

I fired 60 rounds in the range today and looks like the NCstar pistol scope held zero. Pretty impressive for a $60 scope :) My only comment is that even at 7x, I was not able to see where I was hitting at 100 meters. I guess that's what spotting scopes are for.

I have a Leupold scout 2.5x mounted with Burris rings on a UTG tri rail mount. Tried it out today for the first time and it was pretty slick. I gotta go sight it in properly at the range to really see how well it works though.
