Hi guys!

I have never had an issue with my M305 before. I took it straight out of the box (didn't even clean it!) and went through about 1500 rounds (still have not cleaned it!!) and a few days ago i bought a box of .308win (the barrel is stamped for .308win) from walmart and shot about 30 rounds, then it did not extract.. okay so i cleared the chamber and let the bolt go forward, shot it and again fail to extract... now i thought this was wierd! so again i clear it and shoot it again, but this time my op rod had come right out of the track :( i managed to get it back in with a little slap but now i am concerned it could be broken. What do you guys think?

Hmmm

The Americans call this rifle "The Last Steel Warrior" since it's made of steel and not other softer materials (resin, aluminum) and I don't (I'm guessing here) think that the op rod tab (go and look at your tab) that slides inside the op rod track could be broken. Then again it could be broken, but I've never seen or heard of this situation in all my years.

What I have heard is M14 newbies or recruits yanking on the op rod and pulling rearward with some 'outward' or 'right hand biased' FORCE that easily pulls the op rod tab OUT of the op rod track. And that's a common newbie mistake.

I've seen this happen lots and lots. The M14 rifle is one of those platforms that is taught in Basic Recruit Courses, and when newbies buy them, common mistakes are experienced. Then these are shared on the internet and often these shortcomings are perceived as M14 defects by the naysayers or the "Yer #### will fall off" crowd. :runaway: LOL

So please get back to us and inspect the op rod tab. Keep us informed and clear the air about the potential defects before yer #### will fall off! :D

Oh yeah, did you grease the op rod track, op rod hump / bolt roller, bolt lugs, and bolt raceway?

Cheers,
Barney

You ARE kidding about shooting it straight out of the box....right ?
And 1500 rounds without cleaning it !!!!! WTF !
This post almost ubelievable.........Just dont go blaming the gun. This one is down to YOU.
Do you ever change the oil in your car ? Probably not .

Hey guys, thanks for the response, in response to hungry - i didn't think it would be relevant.. but now that you bring up that it could be a problem of pulling it to the side, that raises an interesting point. I was not the one actually pulling the trigger. It was a friend of mine who has never shot a gun up until this... I first let him shoot my Mossberg 715T which if you are familiar with, has to be pulling back and to the right to let the bolt go forward. Do you think he might have done this assuming this is how all guns work?

And in response to people getting all butt hurt that i didn't clean it, i got it for a very good price ( i know the gun store owner and he owed me!) and i wanted to torture test the chinese quality. i did not ONCE blame the gun, i was merely concerned if it is still safe to shoot. And yes i do change the oil on my car regularly because i do not torture test my car!!

I pulled it out once as well I knew i could because I took it apart and cleaned the rifle and if you get the notch and the rod just right you can pull it out....

Im supprized it even cycled because most of them come with the gas system turned off and the amount of oil thats is in the gas system (thats suposed to be dry) its going to be a pain in the rear to clean because of all the carbon

Mine was dripping with oil when I got it so I don't see how you just took it out of the box and stared shooting.

The gun store i bought it from had just got them in they assembled two a black one and a sort of desert camo one, so i bought the "display" rifle although it had only been sitting there for maybe two days.

Wow 1500 rounds without a malfunction and no cleanings. That's quite impressive. I've often wondered about the reliability of these rifles. Thanks for doing the torture test for us :)

Two things.
1500 rounds without cleaning is gonna be right about where your piston and gas plug are going to cause your rifle to malfunction. This will be due to carbon build up inside piston and gas plug. Instructions for cleaning these are posted all over the place.

2. When an otherwise properly functioning oprod starts. Jumping out of it's track, 1st, as Hungry says, check for correct oprod manipuation by operator. 2nd, inspect barrels's oprod guide to ensure it does not have excessive play that allows oprod to twist. Again, remedies for this are posted in web land

A third thing causing ejection, cycling issues and possibly oprod disengagement would be a barrel with an index issue. Also, as you mention it failing to eject, I would probably inspect your extractor just to rule it out of the equation.

Long and short, time to clean yer rifle and do a routine inspection, tune up. All the info is here on CGN.

Grease!!! It's one thing to torture test a gun and not clean it... But it's another to not run the gun GREASED like it is supposed to be GREASED... It'd be akin to running a bearing with no grease or a engine with no oil etc etc etc...

Cheers
