M305 Shorty or Long, whats the pros and cons between the two

They say prices are going to go up and there have been some good (for the EE!) deals lately. Get both and start stripping them down then shoot them and decide how you are going to stock them. Any good stocks that you buy will hardly lose any value if you maintain them. I always seem to have at least one in a build state. As well if you can hit a clinic, well worth the money and nice to see other peoples toys.

Both mine are Dlask shortened; 1/2 28 EFT. You can put on a brake of your choice.

Happy with both mine.

On the rifle's I saw at my clinic, they did not have them cut and crowned.... Just threaded at the factory muzzle end. Which is a new procedure as I've never seen them do it that way before.
But yer right, dlask has been expertly chopping chrome lined 22" M305 barrels back to 18.5" and 1/2x28 tpi for almost a decade now.

The only real thing is that the 18.5 is not and never has been anything but a marketing thing. It was invented by SA Inc. on the M1A.
The loss of velocity is there and tests showed long ago by one of the gun rag writers, it's about 100 FPS per inch. Lots of room for discussion though.
 
SA invented and marketing the 18.5"? SA does have a Scout Squad model @ 18" and of course the SOCOM @ 16.25". I believe the "Norc's" are 18.5" to keep them non-restricted.
 
again thank you all for the input...this form has really opened my eyes to the gun world, and its nice i don't have to do some much trial and error
 
I have a full length in a USGI big red birch stock with a slotted handguard and Fulton Armory fake fun switch - it's a really cool classic battle rifle look. My other is a DA SOCOM 18 that I've done up in a Scout configuration. Both are loads of fun to shoot. The lads are right...get both.
