I'd like to take my m305 hunting and would like a padded sling. I'm not sure how to go about attaching one with the factory mounts on the rifle. Is it even do-able?

I think the easiest way would be to make up a padded sleeve to fit over the factory sling.

yea, buy an aftermarket sling with a pad that isn't attached. Usually they just slide up and down. Pull it off put it on ur M305 Sling... I find the m305 sling comfortable... That's just me. lol

Do yourself a favour and pick up one of these:

You won't get hit with duty or brokerage, and the price is terrific given the high level of quality (even factoring in the current exchange rates).

So I got the uncle mike's knock off of the M1903 sling, found the leather quite stiff, only softening up now (maybe I need to get to the range more often...), is that some sort of better 'usgi' make/model? First off the stitching and colour is different...

Just click on the image and it'll take you to the eBay listing. The seller has different sling colours available, but this one appears the best for usability.

Bucket List Sling: Turner Saddlery 1907 sling in Biothane material... last sling you will ever buy... And they ship to Canada!

Google: Turner Saddlery Clay, Alabama

You will never regret buying once; crying once! And my Garand is my deer stand rifle (I just sit down and wait patiently) with my 150 grain SST Hornady booolits! :)

And the other side:

Get what works for your game / budget / ego/ self esteem / image / LCF (looks cool factor) / and finally your feels good on the deer stand factor

Cheers

I second Barney's sling pick. Won't stretch, rot, or otherwise let you down. All their metal is solid. If you want leather, go for a Les Tam (1-2 year waiting list), or Ron Brown sling. Avoid the eBay repro specials. The leather is too thin, too dry, and the holes will stretch out over time.

Cheers!

While not padded I use a common leather military sling. It is a real sling and can be used to steady your shooting in either prone, sitting, or standing. It can also be used in the hasty mode if there is no time to get strapped in. The GI sling is also wide enough to give you the carry support necessary for comfortable walking in the bush. I like this sling so much that I have them on all my rifles.

oh my sweet jesus.... That wood is perfect.... VERY nice rifle my friend !
