Just a note to check your sproing .
Measured the "new" one that came with the gun 14 3/16

Just about rejection length, the replacement I bought, a chrome slicon spring, is 15 3/4.

The length of spring is important....check your sproing.

p.s. this is from an unfired norc

"The operating rod spring material was 17-7 precipitation hardening stainless steel wire per military standard Mil-W-46078 and manufactured under military standard Mil-S-13572 Type 1 Grade B. The physical dimension and performance requirements were as follows: wire diameter 0.054 ” + or – 0.001 ”, coil outside diameter 0.4575 ” + or – 0.0025 ”, free length = 15.23 ”, a total of 104 coils, the direction of the helix must be right-hand wound and have closed ends."

Also, per Kuhnhausen IIRC, the M14 operating rod spring should be replaced if it is more than 1 " shorter or longer than nominal free length (15.23 ").Military manual IIRC

Hold on hehehehe
Before anyone panics ...
Gas cylinder volume variances between USGI and Chinese rifles, make the GO / NO GO US military spring length specifications totally useless when comparing to a chinese spring.
In my opinion , there is really no need to change that chinese spring once an NM guide rod is installed. Unless of course you want to upgrade for peace of mind.
I stopped caring what oprod spring was in my rifle many builds ago ;)

Yuk yuk yuk, everyone relax. Yer #### won't fall off! :runaway:
No need to replace yer spring like 45acpking sez! I agree. Take it easy and sit back then relax.

I do have a few of the Wolffe springs and ONLY if you need one since you might have purchased a USA dimensioned spring guide (Read: Badger, Sadlak, Smith, Brookfield Precision) and these won't fit the chinese springs. Hey, I'm getting good at typing this from sheer repetition. :D

Cheers,
Barney

I thought that a "sproing" was a slang term for when you're reassembling your 870 and the mag spring has a ###### moment and launches itself and the mag extension across your gunroom.

Actually my spring guide did this last night when I was trying to put the new spring in. Hope my wife doesn't notice the dent in the fridge.
