M305 Stock Ferrule

So I bought an unfinished walnut stock and handguard, finished it with Tung Oil, and now I want to install it. Should I try to buy a new ferrule and crimping tool or salvage the norinco ferrule and epoxy it to the new stock?

Most people seem to salvage the existing one because I don't think you can actually buy a ferrule by itself.

My question is (sorry to hijack a little):

How do you get the little sucker off without bending it all to s**t?? It's not that sturdy.
 
Numrich Arms (egunparts) lists the ferrule for 5 bucks 'murrican, I don't know if they'll ship it or not. I was figuring on removing the one off the norc, straightening the crimped sides with a punch and anvil, reparkerizing it, and epoxying it to the walnut stock. It has got to be tougher than the chinese wood!
 
I've bought them from time to time from certain US vendors back in my NRA High Power shooting days of the early and late nineties. Yup , just a few bucks was all it took.

The ferrules on the USGI glass stocks are cemented (epoxied) in place. Leave them alone.... (voice of experience) I mangled one needlessly in my quest to install a NM version, when all I had to do was take the dremel tool and 'hog' out the interior of the ferrule to avoid any gas cylinder contact and free float the barrel assembly.

Did it shoot any better after all that effort ? Shzt no.... oops. Lesson learned. Been there, done that. Save your money !!
 
Thanks for the replies. When the nightshifts are over, I'll whittle that balsa wood out of the ferrule and glue it to the walnut. I'm totally impressed with this rifle. After filing down the front sight so that it was zeroed at 200m when the rear sight was 6 clicks up, I can consistently hit the 400m gong at the local range with the norc irons, even with the shyte stock.

Hungry here: Glad that you shaved down that overly long front sight post... now with your aperture only 6 kliks up for the 200 zero, you have got a nice low cheek weld. Well done blasting the gong at 400 mikes. That's an accomplishment !! That must make you feel proud, especially in light of the price you paid for the Norinco bangstick.

Black Jack: I dont have exact measurements, but it's a big ol' turkey silhouette. Maybe about 24"x24"?
