M305 Stock Fit

So I just got my brand spanking new m305 in the mail today "shorty" and after taking it appart and blowing all the cosmoline off with an air compressor everything seemed to go smoothly. I did notice I had to use a little bit of force to remove the receiver from the factory stock but didn't think to much of it. However When I went to reassemble the riffle following the reverse order of disassembly I can no longer seat the riffle in the stock. Now it might just be that I am tired or have too much cosmoline in my eyes haha, but after double and triple checking everything seemed to be in its place and everything with the gun seems normal. However the receiver just will not sit right and there is a noticeable gap between it and the stock, about 3 millimeters.

Now I know that I do not have a magical second m305 that I just happened to mix up the stocks with... I wish! Haha. But this definitely seems like a problem. I checked in the stock and a small bur formed on the receiver seat and I knocked that off with a small chisel to smooth it out but still no joy. I don't really want to monkey around too much with filling as I tend to go way overboard and since it fit when I got it I don't see why It can't fit now! :mad:

Any suggestions from anyone knowledgeable on these guns would be very helpful! Thank you!

Just keep fiddling with it ... Start from the fore end work your way to the rear pushing the stock to the reciver mine was the same the first few times, there should be about 1/8th to 1/16 gap between the rear of the reciver and the stock also make sure bolt is forward and the hammer cocked in the trigger group once the trigger group is down in the inlet press that gard down while holding the heal and stock inplace

Agreed....hammer must be cocked to pull all parts together and close tight but you should still see very small gap.
 
So if this is normal and I just need to pull on the trigger group to suck everything together then I sure feel like a moron haha.


 
The Norinco stock is not rigid. It has a certain amount of flex due to materials. The really good target models are damn near as solid as a length of rail road track. Seat the front ferrule first. Then close the receiver into the back of the stock. All the indents, cutaways and clearances will plunk it into position. If not, you've got something out of alignment. Maybe a pin is sitting too high? There is no trick to fitting the trigger guard, it just slips into place or not. The trigger guard has to be open first and when closed it will cinch up without major resistence.
 
I've got the same issue. I have to place the rifle top down (thankfully my rear sights already came non-functioning from the factory) on a bench and press down on the stock with my body weight to flex the stock enough that I can close the trigger guard to lock it in place. I've had the rifle a year and still cant find the spot that is binding.
 
Pushing down hard allowed me to flex the stock enough to close the trigger group. I did it on the carpet to protect the sight, mine is functioning. I could see this being kind of a bummer if I decide to put a scope onto this thing haha.

The only other things I noticed is the charging handle does not align perfectly with the gas piston, with the trigger assembly installed it is difficult to pull back on the charging handle. By contrast the assemble moves and actions like a dream without the trigger group installed. Finally the fit of the upper hand guard is pretty abysmal on the charging handle side of the gun. There is a 5-6mm gap all along to the ferrule where it finally tightens up. I suppose that cosmetic issue can be replaced by a USGI one so it is less of an issue.

Am I in dire need of a trigger job and possibly shims for the charging handle guide?
 
The hand gaurd is not spose to make contact with the stock one of the improvements is to file the bottom edges of the hand gaurd where it makes contact with the stock

If the op rod is not making contact with the piston center to center your op rod guide could be loose or not aligned properly also barrel indexing could cause a misalignment betwen the two parts

Usually the shims are for making the gas lock tight while keeping the gas port inline between the cylinder and barrel port
 
To tighten the op rod guide you remove it from the surface of the barrel that it sits on and make center punch marks on the bearing surface of the barrel apply some lock tight to the "peened" surface on the barrel and slide the op rod guide back on the indents make the OD slightly larger to keep the guide tight and aligned with the piston

The top cover definitely makes full and complete contact on the other side from the op rod. It may even be pressing down very snugly.

Hrmm. It is really hard to tell if its the guide or indexing I do not have the tools to check for index. The op rod will slide further off if you press on it laterally but will not slide to center if pressed in the other direction. If I had to hazard an eyeball guess I would say that in relation to the barrel and the gas system the op rod guide is slightly off.

This could turn into one of those. What to look out for when you purchase a Chinese firearm informational threads... I only hope there isn't anything else that will pop up!

Oh .......I think you can be pretty certain a few other things are going to pop up, but luckily they all popped up before and the fixes are well known on this forum. If you cant find the fix in the stickies........just ask :)
