The vehicle collectors in the UK (God, give them strength) have to be very careful about anything that resembles a firearm. The newest solution is to take the wood and stock hardware from a No.4, for example, and build a completely ungun-like muzzle and receiver, often from wood or plumbing parts. Then they cover up the receiver with an issue WWII canvas cover. Unless the cover is removed, these guys have what resembles an infantry
rifle for their display.

To respect the laws about having anything that resembles a real firearm in public in Canada, one collector I know treats any deactivated display firearm like a real one. These fellows are also careful enough not to bring live firearms to a public event. Always carried or holstered. Always visibly unloaded or blocked. Always padlocked if the owner's attention has to be distracted elsewhere. And always secured properly when unattended. The last thing the vehicle collectors want is police heat and light on an "accessory" to the central part of the public display, the military vehicle.
