I've gone through almost one of my spam cans and now the trigger on my M305 socom won't reset. The hammer has also developed a deformation where the bolt hits it. Does anyone have any suggestions, I'd rather not have to send it back for a little tweek.

Same problem, if I depress the trigger as the hammer is coming back it won't reset, in or out of the stock. At the range first shot works fine then I had to cycle the safety to get it to fire.

Unfortunately I'm still pretty ignorant when it comes to m14 mechanics. That would make sense as it seems that there is no pressure on the trigger to reset.

there are some fairly good videos on youtube that show dis-assembly/assembly of the trigger group.... it is fairly simple, but takes patience until you get used to the procedure.. on the left side of the TG, there is a hole right above the trigger, I think you should be able to see if the safety spring is still in the correct location by looking through this hole... what i would do is disassemble the TG to ensure that all the parts are still functional... your statement about the deformation of the hammer is of concern as well...

So..... watched the videos, tried my luck, it sure looks easy to put together in the videos. But im real confused now, I took everything apart gave it a good cleaning and put the trigger assembly back together. As I was trying to get the last pin in the safety spring came loose, so I finished assembly and everything work better then before, the trigger reset no problem and the hammer require next to no pressure when it hit what I assume to be the sear. Took everything apart again put the safety spring back then re assembled. Now I'm back to no reset if I hold the trigger back when cycling and I need allot of pressure to get the hammer to engage. I'm thinking this jam at the end of the hammers travel is what is causing the deformation.

just to be clear; you're keeping the trigger pulled as you cycle the action?? and after you've cycled the action and the hammer is cocked back, the trigger will not go forward?? and same condition both in and out of rifle?? can you engage the safety when the hammer is cocked? and did all the parts appear as they did in the video?? My guess here is that this is a safety problem - did the safety look ok, not broken or bent??

Also, as suggested to be my tacticalteacher, you may need some lube specifically on the side of the hammer, where it interfaces with the safety...

It appears that the little notch that sear is supposed to rest in is not deep enough and the sear is not pivoting as required. If tore it down and put it back together a bunch of time paying closer attention and it seems to be working now. That being said I don't believe if fixed the problem I'm pretty sure its not supposed to come out like that.

Do you have a wood stock or composite?? if it is Chinese chu wood you may be getting some seasonal movement that is causing the trigger group to be is a slightly different location than previously when everything worked...

I have the socom as well and the trigger group was very stiff.. I have replaced the trigger/sear, hammer pin, hammer spring, plunger and cover with surplus usgi m1 garand parts. it is a bit better now, but i still can't get the SA build usgi hammer to work in place of the norc hammer. have to mess with this a bit more I guess... got my parts from ee..

What complicates that reassembly of the TG is the out of specness of the Xhinese parts. I don't trust them completely to behave like a usgi Tg. Traditionally the usgi TG is easy to pull apart and predictably easier to slap back together. Having all these Zhinese TG's being pulled apart and joyful reassembly reports can be painful.

Hey it's a diamond in the rough. Get used to it!!!

I hardly (read:never) pull my Norc TG apart. Maybe once. I just clean it with aerosol Beake Cleaner and then degrease things. Once I am happy all is clean , it's time for some fresh grease. :)

Cheers, Barney

I had major tg issues with my m305 shorty... It was so hard to #### that sometimes the rifle would fail to cycle. The pull was gritty and the safety took way too much effort to engage.
I watched this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOnElfLEAUg
Gave me a lot of insight.
Of course the norinco parts were machined very poorly and the main problem I found was the safety binding on the housing... had to file and polish out the burrs to get the safety to engage properly... also polished the seers. Now it works 100 times better... still would like a usgi tg, but at least my rifle functions correctly now :)

Thanks for all the feed back, I had contacted can am at the same time as I started asking question, and they sent a return ticket to rectify the problem. Defiantly A1 customer service in my books. I was hopping for a lasting fix that I could do myself but it seems that it will having to take a trip back to the shop.

Is the receiver canted to the side in the stock when you snap the trigger group in? If its tight to the stock on one side and a gap on the other it will fail the function test. Might need to file a bit of the stock down if it is. Im having the same problem right now with my boyds stock.

I was going to change out the trigger components anyway, I'm still contemplating sending it back for warranty but I'm signed up for the workshop in Trenton and would hate to miss it because its in the shop getting a 20$ fix. Is there a chance the housing is the issue and the new components will still have the same problem?
