M305S - Ejection Snag

Have you done the tilt test ? remove the rifle from the stock ,remove the op rod spring& guide ,then tilt the rifle forward ,it should go into battery . Then tilt it up and it should go all the back . if it does not move freely then the problem is in the op rod travel somewhere ! As far as i know it should move freely ! I think there is even a you tube vid on it !
Good Luck

You bet, tilt test checks out fine, but as soon as I put the trigger group back in, the friction returns. Going to try the paint method this weekend, will report back on monday :)

Sorry for the delay ladies and gents - work's been a bigger pain than the LGR lately. Finally solved this one though...

Checked the op rod giude, completely smooth, gas system/piston had no burrs, gas port from the barrel was clear. Because I was getting a bit cheesed with checking that end of the rifle and finding no faults, I went back to the trigger group.

As I picked it up, the light in the shop glanced off it at a perfect angle to reveal a problem with the trigger group plate. There were the noticable swirls from the machining that was done to this part, but instead of being clean, smooth swirls, they were ragged on the peaks, with little filling buildups everywhere.

Because I was still sure it was an ammo fault, I went and got some more Fed PowerShok, also to test if it was just a bad batch. Put the rifle back together, fired 10 more rounds at the range, 4 more jams. Clearly, not just a bad lot of ammo.

Sprayed a little oil in there, let it sit for a few minutes, and then used my compressor to blow that junk out, while moving the hammer to make sure I got it all. Used some emery cloth on a q-tip to get the hard to reach spots, blew it out again, lubed it, and off to the range...

No. More. Jams :D

Fired everything just fine. I am pretty disappointed at my inability to clean the gun right the first time, but that was a pretty tight, pretty small area, and Im just glad I got it fixed :)

Thanks to everyone for your input, it was greatly appreciated!

Glad you figured out the problem :) working on these is half the fun.
And as for upgrades in my opinion the first things to do are.If you are going to just use iron sights get a set of Garand rear sights , USGI fiberglass stock, new op rod spring guide, check the op rod guide for movement and check that the gas locking ring gets nice and tight at 6:00.After that the skys ( insert wallet) the limit .
I found that the Federal powershocks (blue box 150 gr ) worked fine in all of mine and so far no issues with the ammo from the CanAm deal.
And oh ya...
