Old news here.
The gun is a TNW (US) rebuild of a Suomi.
Lots of prior discussion.
Some folks like them, others report problems.

Aside from the inadequate welds, the extra length and weight and cantilevered force created by the Canadian model 19" barrelled model is no doubt inducing stresses on the receiver joint that the Finns never conceived.

Maybe there should also be a hardened pin through the joint? (offset of course, not through the chamber)

Putting too much welding heat into something is not positive.

Is the importer making good on these disintegrating guns? I'll bet TNW and them wish they hadn't bothered.

How were the barrels originally attached to the receiver?

I would rather have seen this in restricted form instead of a weird bastardization that breaks.

I had my m31 tig welded by Drivers welding here in town and then matt blued by pullins gunsmithing. It looks GREAT and with it welded no more issues for me.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I would never own a gun that had a barrel welded on. I was always interested in TNW stuff, but will not consider anything from them after seeing this video.

For the price you pay, it is ridiculous. I'll just buy a Finnish mosin and be happy knowing my barrel is screwed in properly and not welded on.

I don't think the barrel itself is welded on. Just the housing that holds the barrel in place. This procedure is explained in several posts on Gunboards and it seems to do the job.

The Americans also pay several hundred dollars less for the units when they go on sale compared to what they cost up here in Canada.

It's not the barrel that's welded it's called a "front filler" I think, the barrel is still quick detachable. No excuse for crappy welds from the factory but not a hard fix.

Gotta agree with you. I was interested in TNW products as well, as they have some very interesting stuff coming out soon. But after researching I came up with the conclusion to wait and see. The following quote I found here on CGN backs up my decision.....

"The only problem is TNW is not know for making a reliable product - fun when they work - Frustrating as F' when the don't. This comes from someone who has problem solved with their 1919 and 5+ of their MG34's and one of their M31's."

Sounds like this guy has some experience with the previous stuff so I will wait and see if their new stuff is any better.....
