Does anyone know what the standard trigger weight(pull) on an older Ithaca M37 12ga? Mine seems to be around 11lbs. Is there a way to adjust this. Most of my other guns have a trigger weight around 4lbs. The shotgun was made in 1956. Thanks

George

Mine is about 3-4lbs.
Your trigger assembly is most likely full of crud.
Take her apart and clean it with plenty of solvent.

Let me know how the cleaning turns out! Mine has a freakishly high trigger pull as well...

I just disassembled & cleaned the trigger assembly on my m37. Didn't seem to be overly dirty. Had a little rust in the firing pin spring but nothing major. Put it all back together & it still releases at about 11lbs of pull. This is a 51 year old firearm, but still in excellent shape for it's age. I guess I'll just live with it for now. If anyone does attempt to take their trigger assembly apart, beware of all the tiny springs! I have a MS Word doc with photos that detail the disassembly if anyone is interested.

I used to do some work on 37's. I found that it is possible to bend a trigger on a 37 (not easy to see) by pulling a trigger too hard with the safety on. It is not too big of a job to straighten up. I would suggest that you have a smith look at it. 11 pounds is too heavy.

cheers Darryl
