M38/96 rifle to M98 shroud conversion

I'd like to convert a M38/96 rifle to the M98 shroud style without spending a clean fortune. Its ####-On-Close now and I can live with it this way but the real issue I have is the small shroud. The stock was off a M70 and looks very nice but the shroud is messed up. The existing safety is a new two position scope compatable type but I don't care if it has to go.

What are my options? Can I simply pick up an old M98 shroud and swap some various available parts? Not even sure if this could easily be converted to C-O-O but would like to know how if possible.

Thanks for the link cowboyup, I did read the gswagner pages the other night tho, good stuff.

The DT C-O-O kit looks like a good deal but the sporter shroud requires a new trigger with a safety. Price adds up in a hurry going that route.

Could a 98 bolt be used instead if the third lug was removed? Of course that begs the question, would there be a 98 bolt available?
