M38 Barrel in white 6.5x55

Allright now, here's a question for someone who knows more about these things than I do.

Will a small-ring barrel (as for a 96 or a 38) work okay on a small-ring 98 action (such as the 98a)?

Sacrifices required?

Hope not.

While the thread diameter and pitch is the same, the length of thread on the Swedish Mauser is a bit longer than the small ring Mauser 98. I did fit one to a small ring 1918 Mauser 98 but I put a small spacer in between and it worked well.
