M38 front sight base same size as 91/30?

No
M38 sight base and diameter of the barrel is way thicker than 91/30. This tool won't work even on 91/30 as there is variation in barrel diameter from year to year. Bayos won't even fit from one rifle to another.
They should have made that tool with adjustable clump for it to work on all models.
Use hammer and punch, don't waste your time and money on that gismo.

Ah, I thought you were asking if the sight itself will fit onto an M38, which it will. The tool won't fit, as mentioned.

Don't mean to high jack the thread, but does anyone here use such a sight on their mosin?

I have one on the 91/30 I use for hunting. Steel was a little soft but otherwise, great sight.

I have used the Elby M91-30 model on my 91-30, and on my SVT40 in a non-standard configuration with the tool hooked over the sight hood and pushing against the sight base. It worked fine on both, although a little snug on the SVT sight hood. BTW, Elby has a model specifically for the M38 and early M44s.

Joel

There are several here using Smith-Sights.

Just an FYI, the Euclid is a rip-off of my Classic Target sight. I confirmed this by talking to the guy when he brought these out.
