I have a chance to pick up a few excellent condition M39's from a gentleman who's 'retiring' from collecting- he's acquired a number of these Mosins over the years-
What's the going rate for an excellent condition M39 these days? I've seen the used/ collectible gun market is slumping lately, so with that in mind, any opinions/ guesses as to what's a decent price?

Average price $400 - $450 for very good or better condition. I've seen them as low as $350 - $375 in the past year or so. Higher price if better condition and rarity but I paid $395 or a bit less for my good condition '41 SAKO straight stock two years ago.

Try to find out what he's got - check 7.62x54R.net, etc for descriptions and rarity. Keep in mind that that's an American site and Finn Mosins are way more plentiful south of the border.

Matching Numbers or Mismatch? Is the Stock Sanded and Refinished or Original Finish with Markings? Sanding can kill the Value on any Rifle. It's the Sum of the Details that really matter for determining a price. The better the example and the closer it is to Original, the higher the value.

Very interesting link there, Doug!

These are all original... mostly Sako, if I remember the 'S' inside the gear correctly, with a couple having very clear stock markings- will try to grab a few pics if I have the chance

Just for a heads up, the ducks are lining up in a row to put one or two of these on the EE shortly... if it works out, the first up will be a VKT M39, mint unissued condition, new bore, 100% blue, unissued postwar stock. Just putting it out there in case anyone is about to take the hammer to the piggy bank soon- it might be worth a short wait.
