It's time for an M39 picture thread. There have been a lot of M39 posts in the last 3 or 4 weeks, or more than usual anyway, so let's see the ones that are out there!

I've owned more than these over the years, but I currently have 2 M39's.

The first is an original non-refurb 1941 Sako straight stocked M39. It's matching, but has lots of honest finish wear and a bore on the darker side. I bought this rifle from the Collector's Source import in 2007 before any were listed on the site for sale, along with a refurb SkY M39 refurb that I unfortunately no longer own. I had sold this gun to a friend a few years ago, but recently convinced him to sell it back to me. I missed it.

The second is a 1968 "No Maker" M39, sometimes these are referred to as "Sneak" rifles. These were supposedly built from the remaining M39 parts in the Finnish supply system and extra care was put into ensuring accuracy. I've heard these were to be used sort of like "designated marksmen" rifles in the even of a war. This one is like new, and does not appear to have been rebuilt. I picked this one up recently from a member here.

1941 sako Straight stock, not refurb with deep sako cartouche on. I think only 6000 early one has been produced with a straight stock. Not refurb and and number matching make those very scarce exemple.

M-39s are getting expensive these days. I waited too long to add a pistol-gripped one to my collection and it's going to be hard to find one in very good condition at a "reasonable" price.
I guess I'll have to scrimp and save... again. :p
PP.

What's the bore like on that one PP? The bluing level and sa stamp look like it went through an overhaul at some point.

I can't believe how over-represented straight stock sakos are in this thread. They are actually a rare variant, under 6000 manufactured.

And here's a better lighting shot of the straight stocked 41 Sako in my original post.

I used to really collect a lot of Mosins... here was a shot of mostly Finn Mosins I use to own. I'm on a resurgence of interest these days and wish I'd kept these - come rare guns in this shot, including a Sestroryetsk M91, 2 M24's and an M28.

Nice VKT refurb! I'm on the hunt for a non-refurb VKT myself. At some point I'll find the right one. :) Keep the pics coming folks!

Does the worn VKT still have a nice bore? Some of the wartime guns that were NOT refurbished were put straight into war reserve - I suspect because the bores weren't great, but would still work well enough in the hands of a conscript in time of war.

Most of the refurbs I've handled had bores like new, presumably why they were selected for refurbishment and peacetime use, while the original worn guns are often more marginal. My sako's bore will still shoot straight, but it only maybe a 6/10 with dark grooves and obvious wear to the lands.

It's still a really nice collectible example though! :)

How do yours shoot?

Here is my 1942 VKT. The rifle retains a pre war stock and has lots of blueing wear but the blueing on the front sight adjustment screws are apparently a sign of refurbishment so probably a light refurb. I can slightly outshoot my K31 with this rifle, but probably because the sights are better.

Fortunately this isn't a photography contest! These two quick pics of my 1944 VKT were taken on my phone as I prepared to go to work - taken on my signature garish basement photography rug, but with my feet cropped out. I eEven left the Serial Number obscured - is that a helicopter (black no doubt) that I hear?
