Just picked up a new Benelli M4. Gun comes with one choke. Was wondering on best cycling ammo? Can I start shooting 00 buck and slugs through the stock choke. I'm new to the shotgun world, so any help would be fantastic! Also is there a break-in period. I had some jams today on my first day out. After spending 2500 you start to second guess, but I love the gun. Just trying to work out the kinks. I've heard you need loads with at least 3 dram....
Thanks!

Just run full power loads for the first while, stay away from the "low recoil" and trap/skeet loads until it loosens up a bit.

Alright nice purchase !

Ive also recently picked up a restricted version 14" this summer and it too also needed breaking in.

Im only in about 250 rounds along with 2-3 oil downs on the ARGO system and it has now loosened up.

All my rounds have been Winchester AA Heavy Target• Length: 2-3/4” • Velocity: 1250 fps • 3 dram• 1-1/8 oz. shot • Sizes: 7-1/2, 8 CODE: AAHA12 from LeBarons - - I get them by the case for 3 gun and IPSC runs. $75.45 per case.

Like every shotgun each has its different set of procedures and learning to shoot my M4 has been a fun and yours will be too.

Run any 12ga ammo you can get, so long as its 3 drams or more until she loosens up. After that, most ammo is good to go!

M4

Awesome! Thanks guys. It's nice to be reassured of purchase. So no need to adjust the choke for slugs or buck? Friend of mine told me not to if you can't drop a dime thru. Does anyone know what the standard or stock choke is for the M4? I took mine out, but couldn't tell....
Cheers

I usually fire only buckshot and slugs out of my M4, but have had no hi-cups with low powered loads. I think personally it is a gun designed for full power loads but after it loosens up a bit you will be able to cycle and fire any 12gauge ammo you can find.

Even during my initial break in with weak loads I was still getting zero failures to fire or extract, in fact, with the 800rds I have put down the bore of my M4 each and everyone went bang. I love my M4 and trust it with any good quality ammo.

Ammo

Thanks again!

I fired 75 rds of winchester Super-Target 2 3/4 with 2 3/4 dram, 1 1/8 oz., 8 lead shot......

I had 10 rounds that didn't eject. Any thoughts??

Cheers.

As my original post said... I am using 3dram target loads. Winchester AA Heavy is rated @3dram.

3dram is minimum for cycling a new Benelli.

Oil the ARGO rails generously - see the pics of my M4 and you will see oil that flowed to the rear of the gun.

I've had no problems with cycling on my m4 and I've only gotten around to firing some trap through it. I think the problems firing low power rounds is a bit over hyped.
