I've got a Benelli M4 and have noticed that the barrel is getting what I suspect is plastic build-up along its inside length. Any advice on how to safely remove this build-up ? Accuracy hasn't been affected, just doesn't seem right to have gunk in the barrel. G96 didn't help at all.

I have an M4 and run all sorts of birdshot, buck, slug, bear bangers and flares through it. That "gum" like substance in the throat builds up in mine to, after a 500 or so rounds. I use M7 Pro to clean it and let it soak with a patch. Then a brush. A copper or nylon 12 gauge brush is a must. You running stock ghost rings on yours? Any mods?

All shotguns will get this. If you stay on top of it, it comes out pretty easy. 1000 rounds without cleaning? It's gonna take a while. I like my shotguns to look like mirrors front to back when looking down the barrel.

There are dedicated bore cleaning products that turn a tedious job involving lots of elbow grease into a matter of a couple of quick passes with rags to push out the now liquefied gunk.

That's provided you give the cleaning compound at least a couple of hours so that its able to do most of the work for you.

Bore cleaners come in two forms, liquid and gel, I've found the gel is much more effective as it stays put.

Any recommended brands of gel ?

Start out with a DRY, "Tornado" brush - it will loosen most of the build-up. Then use a dry Bronze Brush. Finish up will solvents only at the end of cleaning. Starting out with solvents on heavy build-up only turn it into a sticky sludge and prolong your cleaning efforts.

I usually run a bore snake through mine after every shooting just to keep this junk from building up, but as others have said a good brush and some solvent will get it off.

Bore cleaners turn everything, lead included, into paste that can be pushed out without scrubbing.

The thing is you can't just apply it and go, you have to let it soak in for at least a few hours, and overnight is probably better, or you end up doing most of the work.

I use Wipe-Out - Shotgun Brushless Bore Cleaner

It's a foam, coats the whole inside of the barrel. Let sit 30 minutes.

Picked it up at the last gun show, used it a few times. Does a good job

Sounds like I've got a couple of options. Looks like a trip to my local gun store to see if they have any of the suggestions listed from you guys. Thanks all for the info. I'll let you know what I try and how it turns out.
