Does anyone offer a rubber butt pad that fits my Norc M4 OEM stock? I would like ~1/2" more LOP and a bit softer butt plate for shooting in a t-shirt.

A while ago I saw a brush that was basically a pipe cleaner on a long stem that was used for swabbing out the gas tube. Now I can't find it, of course. Who sells such a thing and what is the correct name for it?

Thanks,
Mark

ATI used to have them for their Shotgun AR stocks. Not sure if they sell them seprately or not, but you may be able to ask on the exchange of parts forum.

Not sure about the pipe cleaner. I just use my kids pipe cleaner they get with their craft sets and Brake Clean from Canadian Tire. That stuff kicks ass. You watch the carbon fly out of the barrel. Wicked stuff. I usually follow it up with a shot of Remington gun oil.

Well, with all the different people and their paranoia on here, I'm sure someone will tell you how wrong it is, but after using it on 37 AR builds I've done, I've never had a problem. If ATI does have them, let me know too. I have a female friend who may want one too. We were talking about this once before and she's just a little thing. Lol!

SFRC shipped me a gas tube brush for free last time I bought something from them.

I've bought stuff from Ryan and didn't get one.

That's almost as bad as when I was pulled over by the OPP on a R.I.D.E. Program and they didn't have any free ice scrapers! I was so mad I spilled my beer all over my buddies car. Seatbelts always seem to get in the way. :D

Tapco has a rubber butt pad for AR stocks. It does not list how much length it adds. Fabsports carries them.

I have a butt pad from a company called SOG armory, I got it with a purchase of the EE. It's a good pad, just not sure where to find one in Canada. I just found out the Brownells sells them.

Regards,

John

Brownells will ship something like that here. That's a great idea. I forgot about them.

Who the f*** cleans their gas tube...?

It's "self cleaning"

You dirty, dirty man.

Hey!
I do think shower, but I don't say it in public either!

Oops!

They do build debris. It's not like something you have to do all the time, but it's good to clean under the sack once in a while. If you know what I mean.

I will track those down, thanks.

There is no such thing as a self cleaning firearm. If it is self cleaning why does SFRC sell gas tube brushes? I don't want to do it every time, but once in a while it is good to go through everything and make sure all is correct.

I also shoot a lot of rimfire with a CMMG conversion kit and would like to know that the tube is not getting gunked up.

Agreed.
I've had to clean out mine a few times. Depends on what dirty ammo your using or where your using it. When I was in Kuwait we were made to clean it out every day. An ounze of prevention doesn't mean you will risk your life on a stupid mistake cause someone said so. .22 kits make up for the sands of Kuwait in my mind.

They sell them because people buy them. The firearm certainly isn't self cleaning but I've never had to touch a gas tube.

No military that I'm aware of teaches to clean the gas tube and the round count on some of those rifles are ridiculous.

I will track those down, thanks.

Link to the gas tube cleaner? I do not see it

Not true.
I was with 1RCR and we were taught during conversion from FN to C7 back in the late 80's.

Honestly though, what's the big deal. The post isn't about to clean or not to clean. Its his decision.
If he wants to clean it, isn't the issue. He obviously does. I do too. Not every range trip, but for sure once in a while I will. But the big point is he was wondering where to buy one.

If you freshly feel the need to clean your tube...
Next time you take the wife to Micheals craft store go in and buy a bunch...

Of course they're not marked "tactical AR15 gas tube cleaning system"
Ask for pipe cleaners...

OK, individuals results may vary I suppose. I can tell you that it doesn't mention it anywhere in the PAM, perhaps someone just thought it was a good idea.

I have no issue with him wanting to do it, people are just trying to tell him that it's not required. Do you really think that a dinky little pipe cleaner is going to be more effective than up to 50 000 PSI of gas pressure blasting down the tube? It's his money and his rifle, he can do whatever he wants.
