... and I don't mean failure to feed.

I treated myself to a new M4 back in October and I just recently got it to where I want it with upgrades. I had it out a couple times on the Lead Sled playing around with the zero, and today was the day I really planned on putting it though its paces with 200 00 Buck shells. The Vltor light mount I put on it failed at the first shot. meh... whatever. Then at round# 96 the barrel hanger lug sheered off. I realize that a vfg will put some added strain on that part, but this is an M4... wtf?

Anyway, I'm not too concerned cos it's under warranty, but I was planning on doing some bragging to my buddies about this gun, but now not so much. Anyone ever hear of this happening to an M4?

I haven’t had any issues with mine except trying to cycle light 7/8 oz target loads which I knew probably wouldn’t do. Mine is pretty much stock with the exception of a different charging handle and speed button.

Wtf, how was that even attracted?

Does it looked epoxied from factory?

And however it is attached iam sure they are all made the same way

I know stoeger will take of you 100% but still what a f****** piss off

By your mods, your M4 looks primo

If it was properly epoxied, it wouldn't have detached, you'd see the barrel tear open first - most serious epoxy is stronger than the metal it bonds. Looks like there's a lot of porosity in the area of the , are they silver soldering the lug?

Were you shooting it like that with the rail? In your first picture, it doesn’t look properly seated, it should be flush with the receiver without that gap. I’m not sure how the b&t handguards fit, but the Surefire ones snug up really tight

Those pieces are not epoxied together, they are soldered and the solder simply wasn't none correctly and didn't hold.
Take anything you put in the gun that it didn't come with off and ship it back for repair.

I took that pic right after it broke.

Sorry that happened to you. Please post an update about how the repairs/warranty work out for you. I hope they take care of your problem.

Stoeger Canada will take care of you, their warranty centre is excellent.

looks like the brazing job was sub par, definitely not the norm with benelli.

I'm sure that they will fix it for you, but I'd stop using the lead sled as well. they transfer all the recoil and shock into the gun, and have cracked many stocks in the past, especially if you load the sled up with a lot of weight.

That certainly looks to be the case.

It isn't epoxy, it isn't solder, it is brazed. From the colour, probably silver brazed. Most likely induction heated. From the look, there was not proper flow of the braze.

Back during the Vietnam war, I worked on a line manufacturing 2.75" rocket warheads. The base plugs were induction brazed into the nose cones. Apply flux to the base plug, snap a ring of silver braze into a groove, assemble the plug and nose, fuse the braze in an automated induction heating machine. Every warhead was subsequently subjected to hydraulic pressure testing. Every now and then, one would let go with a bang, water everywhere. The failed joint would look not unlike the photo in this thread. No idea why there would be the occasional failure, all units were processed the same.

Like a few above have said that Stoeger Canada will get you fixed up, but I personally don't think that you are helping it much by putting it in a Lead Sled. Might as well put the butt against a cement wall and pull the trigger. I've seen more than one gun shear scope base screws, crack the stock, and bugger up well made scopes after being put in the dreaded Sled.

Exact same thing happened with my Benelli M4 14” restricted shotgun, the good folks at Stoeger just provided me with a replacement barrel, no issues after the exchange

Speaking of the lead sled, what the heck is the point of that with a shotgun? Enquiring minds want to know.

I just got it and I've been checking the zero on all my long guns. For shotguns I zero them with slugs @ 50 yards, and I thought "what the heck, I'll do them too".

It never occurred to me that lead sleds can be hard on guns. I don't think the Lead Sled contributed to this breakage, but it's still good to know. Thanks for the input, fellas.

What handguard were you running when it broke?
