recently got a new upper for a barrel i had, the barrel and the reciever both have their halves of the M4 feed ramps but they are not milled to the same dimensions, so not a smooth transition from the ramps on the reciver to the ramps on the barrel...

will the tip of the ammo get stuck at the edge? i guess i will find out when i shoot it, but i haven't had time to take it out to the range yet....

just wondering if anyones had issues from their builds

I examined mine closely when I got it and immediately noticed that the tips of the bullets (Federal .223 55gr) aren't even close to the ridge where the barrel meets the upper. When the bolt is stripping a round off the magazine, the bullet is almost at the top of the ramp portion on the barrel going directly into the chamber (briefly/barely touching the ramp).

I suspect the M4 feed ramps are just a little extra insurance for the little differences in various ammuntion type and magazines.
I could be wrong and would love to know.

I'd be surprised if you had any problems.

From what I've heard, M4 feed ramps are next to useless on a semi-auto gun, even more so so on a Canadian range baby.

Unless you are fireing full auto a lot with less than spec ammo in the dirty battlefird, you won't notice the feed ramps.

you're probably right, i don't really care for them just that my barrel and receiver had them, i just wanted to know if the tip of the round would get caught up on the un-even edge created by using a different reciever...

i had thought, as the bolt carrier stripped the round, the tip of the round would travelled along the ramp, and if it did then it would most definately get "stuck"

It's only a problem if you have a M4 cut upper with a non-M4 cut barrel (or vice versa).

Go take a read on the FAQs in AR15.com. Lots of info there.
