I just received my norinco M4 today, I loaded a spent cartridge casing into the chamber to dry fire it. Anyway it is jammed shut. The charging handle won't move backwards at all. I can't get the safety selector to turn. I tried to separate the upper from the lower by following the instructions in the manual. Everything appears to be locked up solid and won't budge.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Did you take out all the "tampons" it came packed with?

OMG. A use for the forward assist???

You probably cannot pivot on the front pin due to the carrier being partway in the buffer tube area. If you can remove both pins as indicated above, you should be able to separate the upper & lower (Not required to pivot, just a lift off/away).

Slam the butt to the ground or a stump while drawing back on the charging handle
spent rounds are oversize unless you resize them in a die and will almost always stick tight

Worked for me on the old C-7 yeeeeaaaaaarrrrrrsssssss ago, however I didn't even bother with the cocking handle; just 'persuaded' it!

Was it a resized case, case from that rifle or a diiferent rifle? I think yardie has the cure.

For my understanding, spent or fired cases need to be resized before using again. The case neck all the way through the base has expanded over the chamber dimensions that's why it jams when you try to chamber it.

Don't panic just use the case extractor to pull it out or cleaning rod carefully tap it out (but very very careful or you will damage the rifling/crown). :)

Thanks for the replies! I'll let you know how it turns out.

The combination of tapping the stock on the ground while pulling the charging handle worked. I got it to open and eject the case.

Next time I dry fire I will resize the casings or buy some snap caps!

Thanks for the help!

I don't even worry about putting anything in the chamber to dry fire. 16 years in the army and oodles of various rifles and pistols over the last 25 years or so and nary a damaged firearm from dropping the hammer on an empty chamber. My .02 cents.

haha i honestly didn't read the post.. i just saw "norinco" and "jam" and thought that's what you get for $600. I guess some of you guys seem to like them... Maybe the quality has got better but the ones I saw last year looked like total pieces of ####.

same thing happened to my stag with a round that was misshaped. I ended up banging the charging handle forward into the bench I was firing from (as though you were pulling it rearward) It opened after a few whacks. I've heard the buttstock method is better though.
