M4 jam/locked shut

Glad you got it sorted out. I had that happen with my Bushmaster with a loaded round. The one thing I don't like about the AR platform is the lack of a real cocking handle. It's nice in some ways, annoying in others.

haha i honestly didn't read the post.. i just saw "norinco" and "jam" and thought that's what you get for $600. I guess some of you guys seem to like them... Maybe the quality has got better but the ones I saw last year looked like total pieces of s**t.
Funny, most of the guys I know who have them seem to think they work decently for the amount of money they cost. Not nice to make fun of other people's toys. :p

The problem is that the spent cartridge has not been sized before you tried to load it. It has nothing to do with the brand of the rifle. I suggest dumping a bunch of oil down the muzzle allowing the oil to contact the casing area. Let it sit overnight so that it can really work it's way in there. Now you will have use a cleaning rod from the muzzle end and tap the cleaning rod with a hammer. It will come lose. I've had casings stuck in chambers before and this method worked.

The lesson of this incident. Don't insert spent brass into a rifle until it has been sized.

I just received my norinco M4 today, I loaded a spent cartridge casing into the chamber to dry fire it. Anyway it is jammed shut. The charging handle won't move backwards at all. I can't get the safety selector to turn. I tried to separate the upper from the lower by following the instructions in the manual. Everything appears to be locked up solid and won't budge.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Your #### will fall off if it isn't USGI. You're very lucky this time.

Get a Colt.

If the bolt is even slightly locked you will never free the case by banging on it with a rod down the barrel.

Collapse the stock, then while pulling down on the cocking handle slam the butt onto the ground or a solid bench. Problem solved.

All this nonsense about dry firing being bad is just that nonsense. Ask any competition shooter and they all dry fire lots without issue. (well rimfire is another story as it is rifle dependant) But you can drop the hammer on an AR for months without issue.

why would you use a spent casing to dry fire it anyway. I wouldnt have done that. if you are "concerned" about not dry firing the gun, simply pull the rear take down pin, and ease the hammer down with your thumb.

To fix it use a cleaing rod,

or slam the butt on the ground.
