M4 vs VersaMax tactical

Picked up a new M4 off a friend of mine.

Surprised the bolt release is so small for a tactical firearm.

Once i catch up on $ ill be sending it to tacord for the works lol.

I picked up a tactical versamax in 2014 and have used it heavily in 3-gun. I have since had Casey open up the feed port and install the non-forked lift gate. I don't remember what that cost me. I'd have to search around for it. At any rate, I have had no complaints whatsoever with the VM. It has cycled everything I put through it. I did have a hiccup at a match where the gun failed to cycle. Later I realized that it was not the gun but the operator that made the mistake. I did the equivalent of limp wristing it; the gun was not in the shoulder pocket when I pulled the trigger.

To note, I have a hunting shotgun that is a benelli super black eagle 2. It is inertia driven, so it is not an m4; the m4 is gas-operated correct? I thought I heard that as soon as the m4 patent expired, Remington made the versamax?

To be honest, I cannot really tell the difference when I shoot them. Sure, the benelli parts are more polished, but that's about it. I don't think the benelli name is worth the premium. The VM works just fine. The only reason I bought the sbe2 is because it was on sale and it was a really good deal. I think it was still way more than a hunting versamax, but I bought it because it was a benelli. So call me superficial. I like them both. I liked them both so much that I sold off the pump gun, as it just collected dust.

All that said, if I did it again, I would just buy the tacord VM.

I picked up a VMT and love it. Have not tried any others, nor I need to as my VM has risen to the challenge.

But, if the op is on the fence, I would suggest you shoulder / shoot both. Shotgun A might be the one you want, but if shotgun B shoulders and has better ergos...well, that's what you need to find out sooner rather then later.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but anyone have thoughts on the SLP vs the M4? Torn between the two, considering the price difference (although I'm willing to save for the M4 if it really is better).
