Do you have an Escutcheon installed in your stock for your trigger guard? MSR762 has them forsale on EBay…search “USMC M40A1 Escutcheon & Screw”Nope. I can't figure out the stupid winchester style bottom metal. It's all still sitting on my workbench.
Thanks! It is a TMA repro mount.Congratulations, I’m a sucker for a m40a1. Who’s base did you use? New to the forum, how do you post pictures?
There’s a lot of DRAMA around TMA in the U.S., but at one point he was the only fella making bases. Within the last year or so, more companies like D & D are making their own reproductions. I started with TMA stuff years ago, but have managed to source real bases for my a1’s since then. Thanks! It is a TMA repro mount.
Leo Conring built those rifles for Jarhead and yes he was a 2112. He built my first a1. KC Custom Creations is a pistol man…he specializes in Meusoc pistols and customs. Another former 2112The Jarhead movies rifles were actually built by a retired 2112, I think it’s the owner of KC Custom Firearms over on the M40 forum.
I’m kind of supportive of the idea of trying some Krylon on your rifle, I did a little “faux” weathered tan work on my M24 clone to give it more of the same look. After all, to me anyway, I like building clones, which are meant to look like an issue rifle, so why not extend that to the finish?
There are tons of good photos of all the desert tan style camo Krylon jobs on A1’s out there for you to choose from as well, and if you don’t like it you can always wipe it off. Maybe I’m biased too as I was already planning that for my next A1 clone.
I did a Krylon job on my Mk13 Mod1 clone to resemble an issue rifle and am happy with it, again can always wipe it off.
Gary Schneider sold his business to David Tubb’s Son-In-Law in Texas a few years ago. Barrels are still available through them. Give them a call or email.@ArmedGinger - is the barrel on the M40A1 a schneider?
If so, where in Canada was it sourced from?
I had no luck getting a legit Schneider, and man did I look.
Sweet! I wish I can drop 4k USD on a real unertl mount. Either way, bases are available and affordable or you can go down the road and pay a premium for real authentic parts. What ever floats your boat.
Still trying to figure out how to post pictures. Due to my new member status, my account is limited.
Just finding the base can be extremely difficult. I’m glad many of my parts were found before everything got out of hand with prices, but yes sometimes you’ll pay a premium for something that supposedly doesn’t exist. It’s kinda like me trying to find C3A1 parts for a future clone build.Sweet! I wish I can drop 4k USD on a real unertl mount.
